How Taylor Swift, World Princess of Pop, became an oh-so-elegant style sister with… the Princess of Wales!

When she went to the Grammys earlier this month, Taylor Swift wore a creepy Kate-esque ensemble with a white Schiaparelli column dress.

While the thigh-high slit and corset bodice were a little fancier than the royal family's McQueen number, it was clearly echo of the princess last year Baftas.

And while Taylor's Lorraine Schwartz jewels are more opulent than Kate Middleton's Zara earrings, the breathtaking velvet opera gloves united the pair in regal style.

In fact, Taylor Swift and Kate have been style sisters on a number of occasions.

From a shared love of Jenny Packham embellishments and glittering dresses to understated items such as camel coats and chic stripes, there are real similarities in the way the women dress for their high-profile yet very different roles.

White coats and gloves

Taylor Swift, winner of the Best Album award at the Grammys, dressed as Kate Middleton's doppelgänger in a strapless Schiaparelli dress.

The Princess of Wales wore Alexander McQueen with Cornelia James gloves to last year's Baftas.

Swift went for a similar combination, but added more than 300 carats of layered diamond necklaces from Lorraine Schwartz.

Kate stuck with a pair of bag-friendly Zara earrings.

Hands in hearts

To mark the start of Black History Month at a Welsh school last year, Kate suggested she was some sort of Swift fan as she showed off Taylor's signature heart-hand gesture.

The Princess of Wales wore a Holland and Cooper pantsuit with pinstripes and posed for photos recreating the famous move.

White tailored/taylored trouser suits

Arriving at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in all-white Alexander McQueen.

The Princess of Wales mirrored Taylor Swift's J Mendel suit seen at the MTV Awards in 2012. Both single-breasted and cropped at the ankle, the versatility of tailoring was showcased by the fashion DNA-sharing duo.

Pure embroidery

Kate and Taylor had another twinning moment in elegant blue designs with delicate embroidery and sheer sleeves.

In 2014, Swift's Blank Space music video featured the singer wearing a Jenny Packham dress with rows of crystal clusters and beads.

Later, Kate repeated the look with a powder blue Elie Saab dress with sheer panels on the chest and sleeves at Royal Ascot in 2019.

Breton stripes

Taylor Swift stepped out in New York in 2015 and went for Parisian chic style in a Breton top with flattering high-waisted shorts.

The Princess of Wales chose these classic pieces for a 2022 sailing event, pairing a striped Erdem top with Holland Cooper shorts that cinched her waist, just like Taylor.

Crystal clutches

Taylor Swift channeled Kate with a touch of Jenny Packham at the 2013 Winter Whites Gala at Kensington Palace.

Kate's twins wore an ethereal dress from Reem Acra and an embellished coat over her shoulders from Packham and completed the dazzling evening look with a Jenny Packham Casa box clutch as she performed a duet with Prince William.

Later in 2015, Kate dazzled at a James Bond premiere in a Jenny Packham dress with the same sparkling bag complete with crystal clasp.

Glistening in gold

Bond girl Kate shone in gold for the 2021 premiere of No Time to Die.

Middleton carried the Tinseltown sirens of old Hollywood in the bejeweled Jenny Packham, wearing her hair in her signature sleek updo and keeping the accessories minimal with bejeweled gold Onitaa earrings.

The ensemble was reminiscent of Taylor's 2012 Uhair Murad Gown Grammy red carpet Z, which was just as plunging and embellished.

Together with a matching sleek hairstyle and simple earrings, she also looked like a Hollywood heroine.

Matching in black and white

Sleek hair with shoulder flares and minimalist monochrome – that seems to have been the style memo for Swift and Middleton.

For Taylor, it was a Sachin & Babi jumpsuit when she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in 2015, while Kate chose a Roland Mouret dress for the Top Gun premiere in 2022.

A flash of contrasting white on both necklines shows how they both master monochromatic clothing and adds just the right amount of detail to otherwise minimalist black looks.

Camel coats

The camel coat is the favorite cover-up of the style sisters – a timeless essential for cold weather.

Kate stuck to her signature formula with a Max & Co coat over navy separates and a blue Polène Paris bag in 2023, while Taylor wore Stella McCartney and carried a Saint Laurent bag earlier this year.

Fraternization with trains

Both opting for long dresses with a twist, the stylish duo stepped out in high and low hem dresses that showed off their legs with the added drama of a full train.

Kate was the first to try out the trend, dressing in Jenny Packham for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards in 2014, followed by Swift a year later at the Grammys in Elie Saab.

Pink sandals completed the pair's looks, with Taylor in fuchsia Giuseppe Zanotti and Kate heading to the high street in her pink LK Bennett heels.

Bejeweled Jenny Packham

Kate chose Jenny Packham for a dinner hosted by the British Embassy in Paris in 2017.

Her bejeweled blue floor-length dress was adorned with chandelier earrings borrowed from the Queen and Oscar de la Renta pumps.

There was a sense of déjà vu, as the same gown adorned with crystals in a floral pattern had been seen at Swift a few years earlier in a champagne color.
