Teen killers of Brianna Ghey, 16, get almost £200,000 in legal aid as figure set to rise

THE teenage killers of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey have been awarded almost £200,000 in legal aid – and the amount is set to rise.

Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe were both 15 when they were arrested last February.

They lured Brianna to a park nearby Warrington Where she was stabbed 28 times.

The pair, now 16, blamed each other but were found guilty of murder Manchester Crown Court in December.

Figures revealed under Freedom of Information laws show that Ratcliffe’s legal team received £104,237, and Jenkinson’s received £82,262, making a total of £186,499.

According to the Department of Justice, not all charges have been filed yet.

A response said: “The figures are not the final costs of this case as the LAA has not yet received all claims relating to recent proceedings.

“If the process has recently been completed, further claims may be filed until the billing process has been completed by all attorneys involved.”

Bee Manchester Crown Court denied each of the two – now 16 – committed the murder and blamed the other for the murder, which detectives described as ‘horrific’.

Tory MP Nigel Mills said: “All this money has done is cause more suffering than before.

“It was clear that they both committed the murder, and they were given the opportunity to put the family through extra hell.

“It is ridiculous that so much legal aid money has been used for this purpose and that the system needs to be reformed.”
