The boys star Erin Moriarty opened up about how the plastic surgery allegations spiraled out of control afterward Megyn Kelly'disgustingly false' claims.

“This is something I honestly never expected to write,” the 29-year-old actress wrote in a lengthy story Instagram post on Friday, January 26. “We have all been subjected to bullying throughout our lives, but I am shocked and felt I deserved to take some time to address these things. To be honest, I had no idea what was going on as I have had one of the most challenging weeks of my life.”

Moriarty – who plays Starlight/Annie in Prime Video's dark superhero series The boys – has been the subject of much speculation on social media in recent weeks with plastic surgery speculation. The actress had posted some photos following a recent weight loss, in which she was clearly in full glam with strong contouring and lined lips – a departure from some of her more natural makeup looks. She said she expected the usual social media trolls to make their comments and move on.

“I specifically thought that when I got over this period – I was so stressed that I could barely eat and sleep,” Moriarty explained. “I thought, OK, I'll come out of this 10 pounds thinner and the verbal abuse/accusations will be lightning fast – usually drug use or just a flippant 'eat a burger' comment. You learn to become Teflon and move on. I had NO idea what was going on this time.

There is no shame in loving your body. Fortunately, more Hollywood stars than ever before are preaching this message, and are no longer fooled by body-shaming comments. Lizzo has been vocal about helping people accept all body sizes. “I want to normalize my body. And don't just say, 'Ooh, look at this, cool […]

The criticism of her appearance gained much more attention when Moriarty was used as an example of alleged extreme plastic surgery on Sirius XM's. The Megyn Kelly Show. She was shocked when she saw the Jan. 17 segment. “To receive a message about a disgustingly false, counterproductive, in a way ironically misogynistic video of Megyn Kelly commenting on the manner in which — learning of the widespread nature of this has horrified me,” Moriarty shared.

Kelly, 53, showed off what she called a “relatively recent” photo of Moriarty, claiming the photo was taken within the past year, and calling her “a nice, beautiful, natural girl.” She then showed a more recent photo that she said was shocking, claiming that she “Kim Kardashian lips,” had changed her nose and cheeks.

“Look, I'm not against plastic surgery,” Kelly said. “This is something different. This looks like a mental disorder. This is extreme. When you start incredibly beautiful and end up like a plastic Barbie version of a Kardashian.

Moriarty noted that the first photo shown was not taken within the last year. “Megyn used as an example a photo that she said was taken 'a year ago', which was actually taken about ten years ago, before I was of legal drinking age (I'm about to turn 30) (maybe do some research that would take 30 seconds),” she said in her Instagram statement. “It's appalling how completely uninformed, inaccurate and clickbait it is to see people we follow and consider informed.”

The photo in question turned out to be from June 2016 Captain Fantastic premiere in Los Angeles. Moriarty had turned 22 a few days earlier. (It's possible that Moriarty is confusing the premiere with when the film was in production. She filmed her scenes in 2014, when she was 19 and 20.)

Moriarty went on to discuss the selfie she posted earlier this month that Kelly used for comparison (which has since been deleted from her social media). “I got my makeup done that day and it involves major contouring and I remember leaving and feeling really beautiful,” the actress said. “And even that day was a very stressful day for me. I came running to those girls, and I showed up in tears after what happened that day, and I left feeling better simply because I felt like they had alleviated my lack of sleep and used their magic wands .

Her confidence was short-lived. “I saw the comments, devastating enough that I just turned my comments off,” she continued. “But this is starting to become intimidation. This is becoming false news.”

Moriarty announced that she will be leaving Instagram and deleting all but a handful of posts. She keeps her account active so people can see her statement, but otherwise “consider it deactivated.” She added that this isn't just because of Kelly, but that the video appears to have been the last straw for Moriarty.

“I am shocked by the response, the limiting assumptions and the aforementioned video which is a prime example of such harassment,” she said. “It broke my heart. You broke my heart. You have lost the privilege of this account. … I will not accept the way this has been talked about, the way I have been talked to. I have been in a hole and consumed by this personal situation,” Moriarty explained. “You never know what someone is going through, social media is a platform that is not representative of a whole person, and [sic] either way, there is no excuse for the words spoken directly to me or about me. Shame on you, Megyn Kelly.

She concluded with a final comment about Kelly: “Implying that my photo is a reflection of women in a worse place is as incorrect as my belief that if you were to resign, you would leave women in a better place .'

Moriarty's make-up artist, Make-up by Nelly, supported her in the comments section. “I love you Erin! You look beautiful with and without makeup. I'm the contour QUEEEEEN, I think because we made headlines bb🤍,” Nelly wrote. “It's 2024 ladies and gentlemen, we need to know what makeup can do these days. It shouldn't be rocket science to figure that out. Stay strong and positive.”

The cast and crew of The boys also showed their support. Chase Crawford (who plays The Deep) left a red heart emoji Jack Quaid (who plays Hughie) said, “I love you, Erin. F–k the haters.

Show runner Erik Kripke added, “I love you. Seriously, they can come off. Cruelty aside, it's just patently untrue. Be kind, people.”
