And the former Olympian has revealed the very cheeky requests he’s received from fans over the years after he rose to fame on the track.

Matt, 44, said he had to sign autographs on people’s bodies before – and he loved doing it.

“I’ve signed all sorts of body parts over the years,” Matt shared PerthNow

On a more serious note, the former sprinter recalled a sweet moment he shared with a young fan and runner.

He revealed that he once sent his spikes to a boy who went on to compete with them on the track years later.

“I remember thinking at the time, you really need to keep going for your fans and the people who support you because who knows where it will lead,” he explained.

Matt will take over from Kochie, 67, from next Monday and co-host Sunrise alongside Natalie Barr, 55.

Speaking about his new role, Matt said he has big shoes to fill but is “excited” to take on the reins of the breakfast TV show.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to take on such a coveted job that represents so much of what Australian TV is – the good, the bad and the ugly, and have a connection to that,” he said.

The official announcement was made on Monday morning’s breakfast show, four days before 67-year-old Koch films his last show on Friday.

Shirvington, 44, said he had “mixed feelings” about the new gig as he sat on the couch with Barr and Koch for the announcement.

Both Koch and Barr said they were delighted with the choice.

“What we always do is if you’re a member of the family, you remain a member of the family, aren’t you. And you will get through it. And you’ve been fantastic to fill in and every Friday it’s been sensational. You’re going to be sensational. You’re going to be a perfect fit,” Koch said.

During the segment, Barr and Koch also played a video of the former Olympian competing in a race in a skintight jumpsuit.

The tight outfit that drew attention to Shirvington’s infamous bulge as he sped around the track.

Earlier in the show, Koch teased his replacement, telling viewers, “I guarantee they will be younger and better looking. That is open to everyone! It’s a wide field,’ he said.

It’s not known how much Shirvington will be paid for the role, but Koch was reportedly on a $1 million salary.
