Several celebrities have earned the title of “The Internet’s Boyfriend,” but some stood out more than others in 2023.
The term endearment is used in reference to a popular male celebrity that fans have obsessed over online. “They stand for something good, whether that’s just kindness, whether it’s challenging gender norms, or fighting racist systems, they have an element in them that is beneficial to some extent,” said entertainment journalist Esther Zuckermanauthor of A field guide to internet boyfriends: meme-worthy celebrity crushes from A to Ztold Observer in December 2020.
One such celebrity is Wonka star Timothée Chalametwho has won over fans with his performances in films like Call me by your name, Little women And Dune.
“In a way, most internet boyfriends have a soft boy inside them. Soft guys project their vulnerability in a way that makes them seem both admirable and approachable,” Zuckerman told the paper before declaring Chalamet the “king” of soft guys (aka men who unapologetically show off their vulnerable sides).
