Speak with MailOnline Travel, Angela Dove, travel insurance expert at Money supermarket, followed Robin’s advice. She said: ‘It’s always worth taking photos of your belongings before you travel as this will help identify your luggage in case of loss or theft. Before and after photos also provide your insurer with proof of the extent of the transport damage.’

Dove emphasizes that it’s also important to take another photo when you land.

She said: “Airlines take responsibility for your luggage on board the flight, so it’s worth taking photos of your luggage when you pick it up before you have it out of your possession and on your way to the next phase of your journey. This helps to show where and when damage, loss or theft occurred when proving your claim.’

MoneySuperMarket notes that basic baggage insurance is usually included as standard with a travel insurance policy that covers loss, damage or theft.
