THE world's No.1 cybercrime gang that hit British hospitals, schools and the Royal Mail has fallen prey to a British-led sting.

It follows a four-year operation in which five Russians have been indicted and two suspects detained in the US Poland And Ukraine and 200 cryptocurrency accounts frozen.

The hackers broke into computer systems to steal sensitive data, demanding ransoms or selling it to affiliated companies.

The leaders arrogantly offered a $10 million reward to anyone who could identify them.

But on Monday a message appeared on their site saying it was 'now under control' law enforcement”.

NCA director general Graeme Biggar said: “We hacked the hackers, took control of their infrastructure, seized their source code and obtained keys that allow victims to decrypt their systems. LockBit is locked.”

Minister of Internal Affairs James Slim said the crackdown, involving a total of 12 countries, had seriously disrupted the hackers' “sinister ambitions”.
