THREE people have been injured after a gunman opened fire from a moped during rush hour before fleeing the scene.

Police stormed the busy area around 5pm on Friday after a shooting was reported in Clapham Common South Side, they said.

Police said a firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was fired from a moped near the area.

According to police, two people were injured by shotguns, while a third was injured by the moped.

Emergency services were called to treat three people at the scene.

Uber Eats rider Renato Cabrera, who was waiting to pick up an order when the bullets were fired, said he saw a man fall to the ground after being crushed by the stray bike as the riders fell off.

The Spaniard, 26, said: “The two men were on the bike and fell off because the police were behind them, it was two police cars trying to stop him.

“When they fell off the bike, the bike crossed and hit a man quite hard on the pavement.

“He fell on his side and the people nearby helped him.

‘I couldn’t see what he looked like. The bicycle hit him in the legs at probably 20 miles per hour. He fell hard and fast.

“There were a lot of bangs, one very loud one and then two smaller bangs.

“I heard screams as if people had just seen a dead body, but I don’t think that was what it was.

“The men on bicycles ran towards Brixton.”

A witness who works in an Icelandic store just meters from where the shots were fired said 20 police cars rushed to the scene.

The store worker, who gave his name as Jacob, said: “At its peak there were 15 to 20 police cars here, spread across the area.

“The entire area was closed off. Many ambulances also arrived.

“There was a big bang around 5pm but no one thought anything of it and then a lot of police showed up so we suspected something had happened.”

Startled shoppers are said to have fled the area after hearing the loud commotion, fearing the shooting was a terrorist attack.

Passengers were also evacuated from the number 50 bus passing Clapham Common when the sudden burst of gunfire rang out.

A local barber said he was “shocked” after hearing shooting near his shop near Clapham Common.

The man, who gave his name as Kaka, 34, who works at Chop Barbers, said: “I was in the shop just before 5am and I heard a shot up the road.

“We were all shocked because it was so close. The police were everywhere after that.”

Another witness, who was in the Belle Vue pub at the time of the attack, said two women were left bleeding after being shot in the pub.

Henry Smith, 33, told The Sun: “It was manic – we just heard a huge bang and no-one had any idea what was going on.

“There were about fifteen people in the pub at the time.

“Nobody had any idea it was a gunshot until we heard all the commotion outside.”

“She was bleeding, but she didn’t seem to be screaming much or anything.

“I don’t think she was badly injured.”

Witnesses said a woman walking on Clapham South Side was shot in the leg.

A passerby said: “I didn’t see any blood, but I saw her touching her leg in pain. I’m not so sure about the other victims.

“They probably tried to shoot the police officer behind them, but ended up hitting bystanders.”

She added that two men were wearing all-black clothing.

The witness saw the suspects quickly drop the weapon, believed to be a shotgun, before fleeing the busy shopping street.

The ambulance service said: “We have sent a number of resources including ambulance crews, operations managers, advanced paramedics and London‘s air ambulance.

“We treated three people at the scene and took two to a major trauma center in London and one to hospital.”

The Met has urged people to stay away from the area after the suspect fled the scene.

In a statement, police said: “A firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was discharged from the moped in the area of ​​Clapham Common South Side.

“While we await formal assessments, we do not believe at this time that any of the injured are in a life-threatening condition.

“A crime There is a crime scene and urgent investigations are underway to trace the moped. No arrests have been made at this stage.

“Firearms officers are searching the area.”

Forensic investigations were underway in and around the Belle Vue pub.
