Kaskade announced that he will perform in Super Bowl LVIII after Tiësto pulled out due to a family emergency.
“As a kid growing up in Chicago and watching the @NFL Super Bowl every year with my family, this opportunity to actually be a part of it is absolutely amazing,” the DJ announced via X on Thursday. “Las Vegas has been my second home for the past decade, being the architect of creating a landscape with house and dance music residencies as part of the destination. Tiësto will no longer perform at Super Bowl LVIII, due to a family emergency.
The Dutch DJ, 55, announced the news on Thursday, February 8. via X. He was scheduled to perform before the Las Vegas game and during breaks in the action on Sunday, February 11, with parts of him airing on CBS' main broadcast.
“Me and my team have been preparing something very special for months, but a personal family emergency forces me to return home on Sunday morning,” Tiësto wrote on Thursday. “It was a difficult decision to miss the game, but family always comes first. Thank you to the @NFL for the partnership and I look forward to working with them to create something incredible together in the future!”
Tiësto also has shows scheduled for Thursday and Friday, February 9 in Brooklyn, but it is not yet known whether those performances will go ahead as planned.
“I'm excited to be a part of Super Bowl LVIII!” Tiësto said after his involvement in the big match was announced. “And it's even more incredible that it's in my favorite place: Las Vegas.”
The NFL started booking pregame DJs for the Super Bowl in 2019 DJ Khaled performed in Miami. D-Nice, Zedd And DJ snake also earned the gig.
In an interview with Variety earlier this week, Tiësto expressed his excitement about the performance. 'Two hundred million people watching? Yeah, that's a bit of pressure,” he said. “But I'm more excited than anything. Many people who have never heard of Tiësto will know me.”
The Dutch artist has long been a staple of Las Vegas entertainment. In 2017, he earned the key to the city and was awarded multiple residencies at locations around the city.
Tiësto is just one of a few performers the NFL had scheduled for the championship game. Reba McEntire earned the prestigious nod to the national anthem, PostMalone will perform “America the Beautiful” and Andra Dag will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” It all leads to Guardwho has the honors during the halftime show.
The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers face off in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday night at Allegiant Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM ET on CBS.
