Parents say I feel ‘miserable’ because I’m only giving one of my children a Christmas present this year

A mum has revealed the ‘controversial’ reason why she doesn’t buy one of her children a Christmas present – with many calling her ‘miserable’ for her decision.

Tiffany Chesson from Great Britain prefaced her explanation by saying that although she doesn’t have a favorite child, only one of them needs to get a present this year.

The 28-year-old recently gave birth and her daughter will be five months old at the end of December, so she sees no need to spend money unnecessarily on gifts.

“There’s no point in buying her a Christmas present, she’s too young to understand and appreciate it,” she said in a video.

The mother also said that her family was on a tight budget because she was receiving maternity benefits, and that it was better to spend the money on other, more important things.

However, Mrs. Chesson has no problem with other people getting gifts for her daughter.

“My friends and family are going to buy her gifts and that’s OK,” she said. ‘Next year she will be 18 months old at Christmas and she will definitely get presents.’

The mother claimed that there was so much pressure to spend money, but in her opinion it was simply not necessary.

“I’m not hurting my bank account by trying to keep up with the Joneses and buying her a ton of stuff she doesn’t need,” she added.

Several people condemned her approach, claiming she was cruel for denying her childhood joy at Christmas.

“A little gift won’t kill you,” said one – to which Mrs Chesson shot back: “I gave her the gift of life!”

“Miserable,” another wrote simply.

“What will that look like for your oldest?” someone asked.

But hundreds agreed with the mother’s approach, sharing their own stories.

“I already said, I don’t care if people call me a bad mother, Christmas won’t be big in my house until they’re old enough to remember,” one woman said.

“I’m not going to buy my baby a gift this year; she must only be a few days old,” shared a second.

A few parents revealed how they spend too much on Christmas presents for their children.

“My baby was a month old last year so we just bought a play mat that we were going to get anyway and called it her gift,” one person revealed.

“My baby is getting a new car seat for Christmas,” wrote another.
