Tom Holland thanks Zendaya for putting up with his ‘crazy’ long hair
Love him no matter what. Tom Holland is thankful for that Zendaya had patience with him – and his hair – while filming his new series The crowded room.
“I think a big reason for that is when you make a movie, it’s only four months, and that would be considered a long movie. But The crowded room, it’s 10 months of playing this character, day in and day out. I found myself really changing with him at certain times. And of course I had that crazy haircut,” the 27-year-old Holland shared radio times in an interview published earlier this month. “I had the bangs. Bless Zendaya she had a lot to put up with while I looked like this for 10 months it was tough.
The Spider Man: Coming Home star noted that it’s not just the Euphoria actress, 26 – whom he has been dating since 2021 – who had to deal with his haircut. He wasn’t a fan of his hair being “that dark” itself – the locks are a deep auburn in the AppleTV+ series – and much prefers his hair more “like my mom’s, a little red”.
“Yes, it was tough. That was part of the show that I definitely don’t miss,” he added.
The crowded room, which premiered on June 9, is a 10-episode psychological thriller set in Manhattan in the summer of 1979 that follows Danny Sullivan (Netherlands) after he is arrested for a shocking crime he allegedly did not commit. Unlikely Investigator Rya (Amanda Seyfriend) must solve the mystery behind it before the real criminal strikes again. As Danny’s life story unfolds, it reveals “elements of the mysterious past that shaped him, and the twists and turns that will lead him to a life-changing revelation,” according to the official synopsis.
The heavy material is something Holland – who is also an executive producer on the series – had a hard time getting rid of when he stepped off-set. “I’d come home from work and I’d see myself in the mirror and I’d see him,” he told the outlet. “So it took me a while to figure out how to put him to bed and wake up Tom and get on with my life and be myself. But I made it out and was very happy and healthy.”
While Holland is “no stranger to hard work,” the England native revealed earlier this month that he’s hitting pause as he recovers from the intense emotional toll. The crowded room took it.
“The show broke me. There came a time when I needed a break and disappeared and went to Mexico for a week and had time on a beach and laid down. I’m taking a year off right now, and that’s a result of how hard this show was. I’m excited to see how it turns out,” he shared Additional in an interview on Wednesday, June 7. “I feel like our hard work has paid off.”
The Cherry The actor’s recent vacation was seemingly along with long-term love Zendaya. When the Netherlands turned 27 earlier this month, the Shake it up alum took to social media to celebrate his birthday — and shared photos of the twosome on their romantic getaway.
One photo showed Holland swimming in the ocean. Zendaya added a red heart emoji to the photo between Holland’s hands, creating a heart over his head. The second picture saw the British actor standing on a rocky cliff with the sun setting behind him below the ocean. Zendaya captioned the moment with a heart-eyed emoji and tagged Holland in the post.
Holland and Zendaya first met in 2016 while working on Spider Man: Coming Home. While romance rumors quickly followed, it wasn’t until July 2021 that the couple saw each other lock lips.
“Zendaya and Tom started out as really good friends and stayed that way for a long time before it turned romantic,” a source told exclusively Us weekly told at the time that the couple’s chemistry was “off the charts” while filming their Marvel movie.
While the duo have since worked hard to keep their relationship private, the Impossible star confessed to Total Film in November 2021 that he was “very happy and in love”.
Next year, Us confirmed that he and the Dune actress are still head over heels for each other.
“They’re both settling down and are definitely planning for a real future together,” the insider revealed in November 2022, adding that the pair seem “seriously and permanently.”
