Traffic police sub-inspector Vinod Sonkar died here on Sunday after fainting from the intense heat while on duty, police said.

Ayodhya, U.P.: A 40-year-old traffic police sub-inspector died here Sunday after fainting from the intense heat while on duty, police said.

Vinod Sonkar was on duty at Hanumangarhi Temple in Ayodhya on Sunday afternoon, Circle Officer (Traffic) Pramod Yadav said.

He said Sonkar passed out due to the intense heat and was rushed to the district hospital, where he died.

“Unfortunately, one of our traffic inspectors fell prey to the heat wave and the worst weather,” said Yadav.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Ayodhya Dr. Ajay Raja said the autopsy report is awaited.

On whether the cause of death was heat stroke, the CMO said: “So far we have only received one or two cases of heat stroke, and those are also mild.”
