Tragedy after baby boy dies in hospital as woman, 20, and man, 25, charged with murder

TWO people have been charged with murder after a little boy died in hospital.

Police had been called to Yeovil District Hospital where two-week-old Brendon Staddon was being treated.

Tragically, the baby could not be saved and died on Tuesday morning.

Daniel Gunter, 25, and Sophie Staddon, 20, have been charged with murder and causing or permitting the death of a child.

The pair have been remanded in custody to appear at Taunton Magistrates Police. Court this morning.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the Major had launched an investigation Crime Investigation team after Brendon’s death.

Senior Investigating Officer, DI Mark Newbury, said: “This is a particularly tragic case involving the death of a very young baby and our thoughts are with Brendon’s loved ones during this time.

‘We carried out investigations at the hospital this week and we are grateful to Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and their staff for helping to make this possible.”
