Trump campaign says it has raised $6.6 million since indictment

The frontrunner for the Republican nomination, Mr. Trump, has treated his charges as political fundraising opportunities, repeatedly trying to tap into his loyal base of small donors.

He and his team have highlighted his increased donations following both indictments, and on Tuesday linked his appearance in court with a campaign freeze, pausing at Miami’s Versailles Restaurant to greet supporters before appearing in Bedminster.

Aside from the $2.1 million raised at the Bedminster event Tuesday night, the Trump campaign has raised $4.5 million since the indictment was announced last week, it said.

That bump in fundraising, while significant, was smaller than the wave of donations that followed his indictment in late March on state charges — the campaign raised $4 million in the 24 hours following those allegations, and more than $15 million in the two weeks that followed.

These numbers also cannot be confirmed until the campaign files federal disclosures next month, which cover the fundraising period from April to June this year.

Mr. Trump, who has made his outcry about his legal troubles central to his 2024 bid, continues campaign events. He has a scheduled appearance on Fox News Monday, and will be speaking at an event in Michigan the following Sunday.

The next hearing in the documents case is scheduled for June 27, when Walt Nauta, Mr. Trump’s personal assistant and co-defendant, will enter his plea. Mr. Trump is still completing his legal team on the case.

Mr Trump can still face charges in Georgia, where he is under investigation for his role in efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Jack Smith, the special counsel who filed federal charges against Trump in the documents case, is also looking into the former president’s role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
