Saying goodbye to their best TV friends. While many series featured adorable pets in their episodes, a few have aired heartbreaking scenes after the animals died.
“With the season 10 finale, Tuesday’s final episode also arrives Fire in Chicago,” dog trainer Christine Mahaney wrote via Instagram in May 2022 announcing the death of the TV Dalmatian. “It breaks my heart to share that passed away Tuesday on Sunday, May 22 due to unforeseen kidney problems. The love from you fans of Tuesday over the past 4 years has been immense.”
The WhatADog founder concluded her post: “Having her into your homes and hearts will be cherished forever. Tuesday loved working on set and being a part of the Fire in Chicago family. Her tail never stopped wagging. She was really special.”
While Tuesday’s final appearance on the NBC drama as the firehouse dog aired later that month, the show didn’t immediately announce how they would handle the pup’s passing the following season.
Full housewho aired new episodes on Netflix between 2016 and 2020, also mourned the loss of beloved dog Cosmo in December 2019.
“We are saddened to share that the Fullers’ faithful dog Cosmo, who grew up on our set, has passed away following complications following surgery. There will never be another like our boy. 💛 We will miss him forever,” read a statement from the Netflix series via Twitter at the time.
At the premiere of the revival, the golden retriever was confirmed to be the great-grandson of Comet, the dog of the OG Tanner family on Full house.
“Our sweet boy Cosmo is now running around in dog heaven,” dog lover Candace Cameron Bure, who played DJ Tanner on both series, wrote via Instagram after learning the pup had passed away. “I imagine him playing with Comet 😉 straight away. Cosmo came in Full house since the beginning and we are heartbroken that he passed away during surgery complications. You will be so missed love bug ❤️.”
Other performances, eg Gray’s Anatomy And Marvel’s WandaVisionhave made pet loss a central storyline.
WandaVisionthe Emmy-nominated Disney+ miniseries starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, premiered in January 2021. The series began with Wanda still reeling from Vision’s Avengers: endgame dead, evoking a fictional town where she could live with an imagined version of Paul Bettany’s character and their twin sons, Tommy and Billy. The Enchanting Family also loved puppy parents for Sparky after the boys found him in the Westview neighborhood. It was eventually revealed that Sparky had been in an accident before his death, in which Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) claimed to have found the dog in her azalea bushes.
While Sparky’s disappearance became a central mystery on the show, fans got an idea after Agnes Salem witch Agatha Harkness was revealed to be.
‘Who ruined everything? It’s been Agatha all along,” the How to lose a man in 10 days actress sang in her theme song ‘Agatha All Along’, which ended with a big reveal. “And I killed Sparky too!”
