UBISOFT has released an update on the release date for GTA 6 – and gamers may have to wait a little longer.

The game studio's CEO Yves Guillemot said he doesn't expect rival Rockstar to release Grand Theft Auto VI before April 2025.

Guillemot said the new game will be good news for other developers, including French company Ubisoft.

He said: “Every time there is a big release like GTA in the past, more and more people come back to the industry.

“That also helps other games to sell.

“We are really organizing things around the launch of that game, although we don't know exactly when that will happen.

Guillemot added: “We think it will be closer to our financial year '26 than our financial year '25.

“But what we have seen is that overall it is actually positive for the market.

“We have had a good launch with the initial launch of GTA 5 and the GTA 5 online game.

“Each time we were able to generate very good revenues and profits from the games we launched.”

It comes after Rockstar said GTA 6 will release in 2025 – without revealing exactly when.

Last December, a teenage hacker who leaked images of the game was sentenced to an indefinite prison term.

Aaron Kurtaj, 18, who has severe autism, breached Rockstar's system while out on bail and under police protection for hacking into other tech companies.

He had his laptop confiscated but managed to steal clips of GTA 6 using a Firestick, his Travelodge television and a phone.
