UK Weather: Met Office issues yellow warning for heavy rain as drivers face travel chaos and flooding

BRITISH people can expect heavy rain and travel chaos as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning.

The warning covers Swansea in the south Walesstretching towards Cardiff in the east and towards Carmarthen in the west.

It is available from Saturday 9:00 PM to Sunday 6:00 AM.

Some surface water flooding is expected transport disruption overnight and into early Sunday morning.

Flooding of some houses and businesses are possible and road flooding could extend travel times.

Eastern areas will also see a wet start on Sunday, with rain slowly clearing up With office predicts.

Elsewhere it will be drier with some sunny periods and an occasional shower.

It will be drier and brighter inside Northern Ireland and northern Scotland with sunny periods.

It remains mild and feels pleasant in the sun.

Sunday will be a mild day, with above average temperatures.

Looking ahead to the start of the work week it will be mainly dry, but rain will arrive from the west soon.

Conditions will be changeable, with temperatures around average for the time of year.

Figures are also expected to reach a high of 16 degrees Celsius in the south-east.

Next week there will be more rain from the west and temperatures will be “variable”.

The Met Office’s long-term forecast

March 21 to March 30

It will be dry in most places on Thursday, but the rain will spread quickly from the northwest to all areas.

The heaviest and most persistent rain falls in the northwest, while relatively little rain reaches the southeast.

Strong winds are also expected, especially along the coast.

On Friday and the weekend, the northwesterly wind will bring a mix of sunny spells and showers, some of which will be heavy.

A drier period may develop later in the weekend, with temperatures likely to be below normal in many areas.

More uncertain conditions are likely to develop in parts of Britain over the coming week, with southern areas most likely to be affected.

In the northern areas it is more likely to be dry, but also colder.
