The 34-year-old singer received a lot of good news when it was revealed that she and her debut studio album, Jaguar II, had secured seven nominations ahead of the ceremony to be held in February next year, as reported by Billboard.

After previously revealing that she had long envisioned herself becoming a Grammy-nominated artist; that dream has now been realized.

But the one thing she never imagined was that she would share one of those nominations with her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Hazel, and that’s exactly what else happened on her joyful day.

By notching a nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance for the song Hollywood, which also features Earth, Wind & Fire, Hazel now has the honor of being the youngest-ever Grammy nominee!

Monét (born Victoria Monét McCants) nervously looked out for family and friends, including her baby daddy John Gaines, in a rented hotel room when news of the upcoming Grammy Awards was announced.

One by one as the nominations were revealed, the singer-songwriter screamed in excitement with her loved ones by her side, which was documented in a video she shared on her Instagram page.

‘Y’all WHHAAAAAT DE!!!!!!!! Hahahahahahahahhaah this is a laugh and cry combination. I don’t know what to do with myself lmao,” she began in the caption. ‘My feet haven’t touched the ground since I started floating. I learned that tears are bottomless because I KEEP crying.”

She continued, “I am in complete shock and total gratitude for what happened for us today!!!! Thank you very much!! Thank you God!!! 7?!?!! SHEEES!!!!!

In closing, she added, “I speak for my team and I when I say we are happy to be here!!!!!! After learning of her split nomination, the Atlanta, Georgia native said Hazel responded by “looking on the phone for Baby Shark.” I’m so proud of her, but she has no idea,” she explained to the publication.

“She’s kind of freaking out because she doesn’t know why we’re all screaming,” she said of their party. “I know I can explain it to her when she gets older, and she will definitely appreciate it, because she already loves music and is subconsciously starting to write songs.”

Monét added, “She makes silly songs and all that stuff. So I’m super excited that this will be something she will have forever. I’m already thinking about her wardrobe for the Grammys.’

Before Hazel, the record for youngest nominee was held by Leah Peasall of the Peasall Sisters, who was eight years old when the album O Brother, Where Art Thou? was nominated for and awarded Album of the Year at the 44th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2002.

In addition to the nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance for Hollywood with Hazel and Earth, Wind & Fire, Monét will also be nominated for Record Of The Year, Best R&B Song, Best New Artist, Best R&B Performance for How Does It Make You Feel, Best R&B Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.

Until the release of Jaguar II (2023), Monét was known for her songwriting skills for a host of other musical artists, such as Ariana Grande and her smash hits Thank U, Next and 7 Rings.

She has also previously written for Travis Scott, Nas, Fifth Harmony, Blackpink, TI, GOOD Music, Lupe Fiasco, Chrisette Michele, Coco Jones, Chloe x Halle and Chris Brown, among others.
