It comes as two major railway companies urged Britons not to travel, as a number of trains did canceled due to signal error.

The With office warned that heavy rain would occur south of Londonuntil Brighton and looking forward to Canterbury.

Forecasters say the rains are likely to cause flooding and widespread disruption.

It said: ‘There is a small chance that houses and businesses could be flooded, damaging some buildings.

“If flooding occurs, there is a small chance of delays or cancellations of train and bus services.

“Spray water and flooding can lead to problems the driving conditions and some road closures.

“There is a small chance that some communities may be cut off by flooded roads.”

The Met Office has warned that up to 4cm of rain could drench parts of Britain, with 66 flood warnings remaining in force this morning.

The Environment Agency said there are also 215 flood warnings in place across the country.

Met Office forecaster Jonathan Vautrey said: “With this rain falling on already highly saturated ground, there is a risk of localized flooding. Be careful and even into early Monday we could see some disruption in some places.

Weather in Britain: Britons hit by heavy rain and flooding after temperatures dropped to -6 degrees

‘Elsewhere there will be some clear spells tonight, with showers moving as far north as they start to fall frozen On surfaces where we see temperatures dropping, we could see some icy patches forming first thing Monday morning.

“Overall, temperatures in the south-east will hold out a little longer under the more widespread cloud cover here, but it does mean it will be a fairly dull and gray start to the day.

“It may also take until the afternoon for the rain to clear properly, such as in East Sussex and Kent.”

It’s because the British were told to brace for the temperatures drop below zero.

The mercury dropped to -6 degrees Celsius on Friday night, causing much of the country to wake up to freezing temperatures with “local fog and mist“.

In Aboyne, Scotland, conditions plummeted to -6.4 degrees Celsius in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Cold conditions arrived from the north, leaving frost on the ground. Early birds had to defrost their cars because of the cold wind.

What to do if the road is flooded

If the road is flooded, turn around and find another route

The number one cause of death during flooding is driving through floodwaters, so the safest advice is to turn around and don’t drown.

Although the water may seem shallow, just a foot of moving water can float your car, potentially sending it into deeper water from which you may need to be rescued.

Flood water also contains hidden hazards that can damage your car, and just an egg cup of water sucked into your car’s engine can cause serious damage.
