Wednesday’s Percy Hynes White breaks silence on sexual assault allegations

Wednesday star Percy HynesWhite speaks out for the first time after being accused of online assault.

“Hello everyone. There is something I need to clarify,” the 21-year-old actor began on Tuesday, June 6. Instagram Story message. “Earlier this year, someone I’ve never met started a campaign online with misinformation about me. As a result, my family has been intoxicated and my friends have received death threats.”

The Gifted alum claimed that in addition to people using “photos of minors” and “examples of me acting in character” to portray him as “hateful”, his girlfriend “Jane was falsely portrayed as a victim”, and that her “attempts to to set the record straight have been ignored.”

White wrote that “the rumors are false” and he will not accept people depicting him as “someone bigoted or criminally negligent with people’s safety”. He continued: “These are the kind of baseless, damaging claims that can create mistrust towards victims.”

He concluded his post by calling the spread of misinformation “disturbing”, and thanked his fans for their support. “The harassment of my family, friends and colleagues must please stop,” White wrote. “Thank you for taking the time to read this.”

Earlier this year, the #cancelpercy hashtag gained momentum on Twitter after a user posted a series of tweets denouncing the Pretty hard cases star of predatory behavior, sending images of herself to minors and using racial slurs during a performance. The Twitter thread has since been deleted.

While some fans have called for White’s Wednesday character, Xavier Thorpe, who will be recast in the upcoming season of the show, other fans have shown their support for White with the hashtag #savepercy.

“So much hate here for a… twitter rumor? No one will take it because there are no legal charges, no legal evidence, just some twits of ‘and my mut [sic] told me ‘Go ahead!’ one fan commented February 20 message on Wednesday‘s official Instagram page. Another wrote: “Let things work out legally and then blame him until that please support.”

Netflix has yet to officially announce which cast members will be returning for the series’ second outing.

White, for his part, has stayed close to his costar Jenna Ortega and was her date at the 2023 Golden Globes in January – where she was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams.
