New Delhi: The Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organization that runs Wikipedia, published its annual list of the most viewed articles on English Wikipedia in 2023, and for the first time since the foundation began publishing these most popular lists at the end of 2015 the year, articles on Indian topics. featured prominently on the list, with about seven in the top 25.

In 2023, cricket made up a whopping 16 percent of the top 25 articles on English Wikipedia. The articles for the ‘2023 Cricket World Cup’ (number three), organized this year in India, and ‘Indian Premier League’ (number four) have made it into the list of the top five most viewed articles.
These Wikipedia articles, along with the articles ‘Cricket World Cup’ (number six) and ‘2023 Indian Premier League’ (number nine), collectively received more than 116.8 million page views.
While Cricket and related items figure prominently on the list, Bollywood isn’t far behind with two of this year’s biggest blockbusters making their way into the top 25. ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’, both starring Shah Rukh Khan, are in eighth place. and tenth place on the list respectively, good for more than 41.7 million page views. Around the release date, both films peaked at over a million page views in one day on the English Wikipedia alone.

The Wikipedia article for ‘India’ also ranks 21st, with almost 14 million page views.
