Will Netflix be next to cut ties with Harry and Meghan? The relationship between streaming giant and the Sussexes has “not always been great,” a source claims

Speculation was rife in Hollywood last night that Netflix may be preparing to follow Spotify in cutting ties with the Sussexes.

A source at the streaming giant, who reportedly signed an £80 million deal with the couple in 2020, told The Mail on Sunday: ‘The relationship hasn’t always been great.

“Harry is no big deal, but Meghan thinks she knows how to run Hollywood.”

Senior executives were reportedly unhappy that the couple chose to give their first interview with Oprah Winfrey on the CBS network. “Those ruffled feathers,” the source said.

“There were some unhappy executives who felt Netflix should have gotten the first bite of the cherry.”

The couple made the six-part series Harry & Meghan for Netflix last year, which became the second most watched documentary ever. Then they narrated the Live To Lead series on inspirational leaders, and Harry’s documentary on the Invictus Games airs in August.

But Meghan’s animated children’s series, Pearl, about a girl inspired by historical female figures, was canceled.

The former Suits star was also reportedly unhappy. Netflix did not call her to participate in high-profile shows about diversity, including Queen Cleopatra, a recent series in which the Egyptian ruler was played by black actress Adele James.

The source said: ‘There are ongoing reviews of all major contracts. Netflix was very happy with the performance of their docu-series.

“Contracts like this are multi-part deals where both parties usually walk away once certain contractual milestones are reached.”
