Is Wayne Couzens eligible for parole?

In September 2021, Couzens used to be sentenced to life imprisonment immediately whole life order.

He is unlikely to be offered parole due to the terms of this sentence.

Prisoners sentenced to life in prison, like Couzens, must serve their time without the possibility of parole.

This punishment can only be imposed on those who committed their crimes when they were over 21 years old.

Couzens used to be told at his sentencing that he would die in prisonalthough this does not happen in every case of an entire life order.

In exceptional circumstances, for example if a prisoner is elderly or in poor health, the Home Secretary may authorize release.

The Court of Appeal can also quash life orders.

This was reported in October 2021 Couzens had appealed against his punishment.

His lawyers argued he deserved “decades in prison” but said a lifetime sentence was excessive.

Lord Burnett said at the time: ‘This was, as the judge said, a twisted, selfish and brutal offence, which was both sexual and murderous.

‘It was a case with unique and extremely aggravating features.

“Chief among these, as the judge correctly found, was Couzens’s grotesque abuse of his position as a police officer, with all that entails, to facilitate the kidnap, rape and murder of Ms Everard.

“We agree with the judge’s observations about the unique position of police, the critical importance of their role and the critical trust the public places in them.”

How long is Wayne Couzens’ sentence?

Couzens was sentenced to life imprisonment on September 30, 2021 after pleaded guilty Unpleasant the murder by Sara Everard.

The judge said: ‘The abuse of the role of a police officer, as occurred in this case to kidnap, rape and murder a lone victim, is of the same seriousness as a murder with the aim of a political, religious ideological to promote the cause.

“Sarah Everard was a completely innocent victim of a grotesquely executed series of circumstances that culminated in her death and the disposal of her body. She simply walked home.”

Couzens was later convicted to a further 19 months in prison in March 2023 after pleading guilty to three indecent exposure offences.

Two of the incidents occurred on one McDonald’s in Knows and saw Couzens pulling down his pants while paying for his food.

One offense occurred on February 14, 2021 and the other on February 27, just days before Sarah’s murder.

McDonald’s staff were “shocked, upset and angry” about the incidents.

The third offense of indecent exposure occurred on November 13, 2020.

Couzens, who was on duty at the time, stepped naked from a wooded area in his hometown of Deal and has performed a sexual act on himself while a woman cycled by.

This was evident from a report from February 2024 Couzens had tried to kidnap a woman with a knife and sexually assaulted a young girl before killing Sarah.

File also stated that the killer raped two women but went unnoticed by at least three police forces.

The complainants came forward after his arrest for Sarah’s murder.

According to the historic Angiolini investigation report, Couzens should never have been a police officer.

There were a number of “red flag” opportunities that could have gotten him kicked off the force and prevented his future transgressions, but these were also missed, the report said.

Where is Wayne Couzens in prison?

Couzens is serving his life sentence HMP Frankland in Durham.

He was previously locked up in HMP Belmarsh in London.

Belmarsh has also housed the Manchester Arena plotter Hashem Abedi And Lee Rigby machete terrorist Michael Adebolajo.
