Yoo Young-chul terrorized the women and wealthy members of Seoul, South Korea during his gruesome year-long killing spree.

Yoo has carefully chosen sex workers to brutally attack and kill executions as he vented his anger at women after being dumped and divorced by former lovers.

The deadliest serial killer in South Korea history would allegedly mutilate the bodies of his victims after using a hammer he fashioned perfectly for his grip and bludgeoning them to death in his bathroom.

Using axes, knives and even scissors, Yoo cut his victims into several smaller pieces and even feasted on their livers to supposedly “cleanse his mind”.

Several bodies had their fingertips torn off when found so they could not be identified.

Yoo placed their dismembered remains in garbage bags and buried them under mounds of dirt near a mountain.

The murderous cannibal began his path of destruction in 2003, when he murdered his first victims, Lee Deok-su, a 72-year-old university professor, and his 68-year-old wife, Lee Eun-ok.

His appetite for murder increased in the following months as he murdered another five people from wealthy families and one of their housekeepers.

After these first targeted killings that shook South Korea and the police frantically tried to solve the case, Yoo began his rampage against women.

In total, Yoo admitted to killing 26 people after he was captured and arrested, leading police to the mutilated bodies he had buried.

How did Yoo get caught?

But it wasn't the police who finally caught him, but the owner of a South Korean massage parlour.

Yoo made a small mistake during his murderous tenure when he stole the phone of a young girl he brutally murdered and used it to make calls.

The serial killer and cannibal had a nasty history of picking on employees at the local massage parlor – meaning the boss was already on alert for the safety of his female staff.

So one day when the owner saw the phone number calling him and immediately recognized it as his missing employees, he quickly took action to catch the killer who was terrorizing his store and the entire town.

The owner arranged a meeting place between himself and Yoo at a motel and when the terrifying man showed up, the remaining employees tackled him down and called the relieved police.

But Yoo managed to escape by feigning an epileptic fit before being beaten into a cell and beginning a 12-hour manhunt before being caught.

After admitting to his chilling string of murders, Yoo was quickly sentenced to death by hanging and put on death row.

But the 53-year-old still sits in his prison cell every day, forced to live with his deadly decisions as South Korea has not executed a person since 1997.

Yoo said during his trial in September 2004, “The media keeps saying that I killed so many people, but for me it was just a beginning.”

“I had no intention of stopping the murder.”

After his arrest and subsequent confessions, it was revealed that Yoo's hatred for the rich stemmed from his upbringing in the poor, rural area in Gochang County.

Prosecutors at his trial described his childhood as developing “hostility toward the wealthy.”

As a young criminal, Yoo was already involved with the police in the capital of South Korea.

He was convicted of theft in 1988 and 1991 before being arrested and charged with burglary two years later.

His crimes increased in 1998, when Yoo became embroiled in charges of theft, forgery and identity theft before eventually being sent to prison. jail in 2000, for raping a 15-year-old girl.

During his time behind bars, Yoo began reading about Korean killer Jeong Du-yeong – a serial killer with a very similar sinister mind to the Raincoat Killer.

His wife, who worked in a massage parlor, submitted an application parting when he was in prison and this fueled his hatred of women.
