YouTuber Rosie McClelland has bravely spoken out about being bullied by online trolls after failing her final exams.

The 17-year-old influencer from Essex became an internet sensation at the age of five after her viral rendition of a Nicki Minaj song led to an invitation to appear on The Ellen Show.

Rosie today spoke to This Morning hosts Cat Deeley and Craig Doyle to explain how she found herself on the receiving end of ‘hate’ after revealing she failed her GCSEs.

She revealed that although the trolls made her ‘cry’, she has just completed her exam resits after extra guidance and remains optimistic.

Speaking alongside her mother, Danielle, she recalled, “I posted on my YouTube channel because I do a lot of vlogs. I just wanted to show it to everyone because I’m not going to lie to my followers.

“I could have just said, ‘I got everything. I got all A’s and all A’s.” But I decide to show them my vulnerable side. Even if you don’t pass your GCSEs, it doesn’t define who you are.

‘I was only eight points away from passing, which was very annoying. But at the end of the day, a number doesn’t define you.

Rosie exclaimed that she had since put the episode behind her, telling trolls that she “didn’t care anymore.”

Yet at the time, she recalled being naive to the onslaught of online abuse that was to come.

“It was two days before my birthday and there was just a whole wave of videos hating me,” she said.

‘It was me who cried, then I just failed and everyone made fun of the fact that I failed all my final exams. And honestly, nothing hurts me. Like nothing affects me.

‘But this – I cried for two days straight. It was really difficult. Especially for my mother’.

Rosie’s mother, a content creator herself, said at the time that she had lost all control after being her daughter’s protector for more than a decade.

“In all that time, we had never seen anything like it,” she said.

Things became so dire that Danielle regretted allowing her daughter to post the video, exposing her to “haters” — even though she admitted the video had “helped so many people.”

Rosie said she was now studying music production at university, so in the long run her grades didn’t matter.

The news comes during Anti-Bullying Week, which this year’s theme is ‘Make noise about bullying’.

The event aims to raise awareness of the harmful effects of bullying and encourage people to stand up against oppression.

The duo went on to make numerous appearances on The Ellen DeGenerous Show, charming the powerful comedian with their cute accents, precocious personalities and love of pink tutus.

The young girls became an instant sensation and remained one of Ellen’s favorite acts.

Ellen repeatedly brought Sophia and Rosie back onto her show, introducing the girls to their favorite celebrities – including Rihanna – and turning them into red carpet correspondents.

The adorable cousins eventually got their own segment called Tea Time with Sophia Grace and Rosie, where they interviewed everyone from Miley Cyrus to Hugh Grant.

Two children’s picture books were built around the girls and they even got their own movie: Sophia Grace & Rosie’s Royal Adventure.
