Arteta ready to break budget for striker
Mikel Arteta has hinted that Arsenal is ready to break the bank for the right striker this summer – comparing this transfer window with excessive editions to a lush wedding, Jordan writes Davies.
The Gunners need an elite no. 9 and have made Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and Red Bull Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko their top goals.
Both Gyokees, 26, and Sesko, 21, can cost between £ 60 million and £ 70 million, while Isak is valued as high as £ 150 million by the tone.
Arsenal has proven in the past that they are willing to splash large – £ 105 million splashes to midfielder Declan Rice in July 2023 – and can splash up to £ 200 million in this window.
Arteta said: “The budget is like when you have your wedding, you plant your wedding with your wife and you give her a budget.
“It is never less, it is always more. If you build a house, it is always more. Normally this happens. You prepare for different scenarios.
“Sometimes we want a player and suddenly we have injured an injury or that player. There are so many variables that can happen, but there is a budget.
“There is always an idea of what we can do, what we can improve, what the priorities will be and let’s see if we can do it.”
