The curious thing of the missing Alexa+ users – Many are still waiting for ‘early access’

- Amazon’s rollout from Alexa+ misses a lot of public evidence
- Technical problems can postpone a wider release
- Amazon claims that Alexa+ is used in hundreds of thousands of houses
Amazon Alexa+ revealed more than six weeks ago with big fanfare, but there has not been much conversation under AI and voice assistant users since then. My informal check of more than a dozen heavy Alexa users in the US did not find any access to it, and a report by Reuters suggests that it is far from the explosive event, Amazon has hyped it to be at the debut presentation.
Alexa+ Is supposed to be Amazon’s infusion of AI in the eleven -year -old voting assistant. The use of generative AI as a glow-up tool makes Alexa smarter, more useful, better in conversation and simply more intuitive as an assistant. Alexa+ is supposed to give the voting assistant many new and improved possibilities to perform your requests, such as processing multiple instructions at the same time and adjustment to personalize its services. For example, it must remember your nutritional preferences and help you order food.
Invitations for early access were intended to go out at the end of March. Anecdotal no one has arrived and a look around social media does not reveal a buzz either. Here at Techradar, Alexa has been told for weeks the editor of Lang Lans Ulanoff that he is “on the early access list”, but there is still no sign of Alexa+.
Even a Reddit post covered by tech radar has since been removed from the website. Amazon begs to differ on that conclusion. The company shows trust about the current and future release of Alexa+.
“Early access to Alexa+ is coming up. It is already open for hundreds of thousands of customers, and we expect it to roll out to millions in the coming month,” a Amazon spokesperson told Techradar. “This is no different than other invitation programs that we have carried out – we scale when we learn.”
Alexa+ plans
As Amazon says that there is no slow-rolling from Alexa+, the reasons behind an apparent delay are also not official. That said, the Reuters report mentioned possible technical problems regarding the speed and accuracy of the renewed Alexa, as well as higher than preference costs to lead the new models. There has been a bit of déjà vu since Amazon made a lot of noise around an AI-improved Alexa in the fall of 2023, with an early preview promised in the coming weeks that never really happened.
It is far removed from the unveiling of the original 2014 Amazon EchoWhich only a few weeks after it appeared on a stage started to send. Amazon may feel that the bet is too high to give priority to timing over the performance this time. If Alexa+ rumbles at the launch, this can undermine the entire Smart Home strategy of Amazon. Even worse, it can strengthen the idea that Alexa is more a talking timer than a real digital assistant.
Amazon also recently made it Alexa interactions are only incorporated into the cloudRemoving the option for local processing. This change can stimulate the brain power of Alexa+, but it also increases privacy flags that may need to be treated before a wide release.
So, Alexa+ exists technically and Amazon swears that it is being used. But you have to wait for a review of Alexa+ from someone’s house. Until then, Alexa+ is more ghost than AI Ghost in the machine.
