‘That’s mean,’ people shout as mother reveals why son is excluded from graduation
A mother has slammed a daycare centre for excluding her son from his school’s graduation ceremony for a ‘stupid’ reason.
With September fast approaching, for many daycare visitors this means only one thing: saying goodbye to their little peers and heading off to the big school.
Sadly, one young boy will miss his graduation ceremony. But it’s not because his family is going on vacation or because his parents don’t want him to attend.
According to the mother, her son was banned from the ceremony. She expressed her anger on the popular forum Mumsnet.
The mother, who thought the daycare’s graduation ceremonies were “nonsense,” explained that her little one had only recently joined the daycare and was now being denied entry by staff.
”I know these kindergarten graduations are all a little silly, but my DS [dear son] “He started his daycare a few months ago and they said that since he has only been there a few months, he will not be attending graduation,” she wrote in the mail.
Furthermore, the mother has insisted that the staff allow her son to participate in rehearsals for the big day, but he is not allowed to attend.
“They said they’d bring him to the rehearsals for the signing, but they ordered the robes and the beret ages ago and they’re only for the kids who have been there the whole time.”
She angrily added that the nursery had not informed her family of the decision and that it had been announced in front of everyone.
“I don’t understand how they can have a conversation and say, yeah, let’s leave this kid out of this.
”They didn’t communicate it to us either, they just sent the message to the whole class, and he is literally the only one this applies to.
“It wasn’t until I asked that they told me!”
Equally astonished were other Mumsnet users who were quick to comment, criticising the nursery for the ‘unreasonable’ and cruel decision.
A supportive person said: “That’s incredibly mean. Just be glad he’s gone, I guess.”
Another agreed, adding: “That’s really mean. Who cares about robes and hats on 4 year olds?
“Probably half of them will take them off before the ceremony starts.”
What is a Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony – and Why is it an Event?
Although daycare graduation ceremonies have long been popular in the United States and elsewhere in Europe, the concept is still relatively new in the United Kingdom.
Although some often see it as a waste of time, the purpose of a kindergarten graduation ceremony is to teach children about the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
The ceremony, where the little ones sometimes also wear a cape and a mini-beret, consists of a short but fun speech, often followed by the graduates receiving their certificates and performing for their families.
Not only is this a time to celebrate your children’s achievements, but graduation is also an opportunity to say goodbye to their classmates who, in some cases, are moving on to a different elementary school.
It also gives you the chance to thank all the teachers and staff who have always been there for you.
A third chimed in: “That’s awful! I don’t like the whole graduation thing in kindergarten, they don’t give diplomas and the robe and cap are for when you have a diploma, but when all his classmates do it and he leaves to go to school too, that’s awful.”
Someone else thought: ”Ugh. I didn’t realize we wore robes and berets here too.
“I guess they can’t give him a dress, but there’s got to be some way to get him involved.”
One social media user said: “I mean, I’m sure the kids won’t mind if his dress looks a little different. Just buy one on Amazon.”
