ABC says Terry Moran, suspended for messages on social media, will not return

The network said on Tuesday that it had decided not to renew Mr. Moran’s contract. He had worked at ABC News for 28 years.

“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran, and on the basis of his recent position – which was a clear violation of the ABC news policy – we made the decision not to renew,” said a spokesperson for the network in a statement. “At ABC News we stick to all our reporters at the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering simple, trusted journalism.”

Mr. Moran’s contract will expire on Friday, according to a person with knowledge of his deal who has asked an anonymity to announce sensitive details.

Mr. Moran, a senior national correspondent, fell many roles in ABC News. In April he received praise for an interview that he held Trump in the Oval Office with Mr. Trump, and he led the recent reporting of the network on the papal conclave in Rome.

The network suspended him on Sunday, hours after he posted a ‘late-night message on X, in which he described Mr Miller as’ a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred’.

The post was removed later, but screenshots circulated on social media. Allies of Mr. Trump immediately made the comments of Mr. Moran, with vice -president JD Vance de Post called an ‘absolutely mean smear’.

Moran could not be reached immediately for comment.
