All the times the Kate Middleton’s fashion has inspired others – from Ivanka Trump to Meghan Markle

She’s one of most photographed people in the world, with the eyes of the world on her whenever she steps out to an event or engagement.

So it’s no surprise Kate Middleton has become a huge style star, with many of her clothes selling out the second she’s seen in them.

And while ordinary women all over the world covet the Princess of Wales’ style, so do celebrities – and other royals – with the likes of Holly Willoughby and Princess Mary of Denmark often spotted in Kate’s style.

Most recently, former Presidential daughter Ivanka Trump was seen in a copy of Kate Middleton’s Jenny Packham gown.

Considered one of the royal’s best ever looks, Kate opted for a golden gown at the premiere of James Bond, No Time To Die in 2021. Earlier this month, Ivanka picked the same dress – in a different colour – for her daughter’s Bat Mitzvah.   

Here, FEMAIL looks at all the stars inspired by Kate’s sense of dress, from her own mother and sister to Meghan Markle… 

IVANKA TRUMP

The Princess of Wales dazzled at No Time To Die premiere in London in 2021 when she stepped out in a custom Jenny Packham embellished gown – which is usually priced at £2,800. 

Featuring cape sleeve detailing and structured shoulders, she teamed her dress with bespoke £290 Onitaa earrings – which were made in Pakistan by the South Asian luxury couture label.

Kate outshone even the stars in the form-fitting frock, created to look like liquid metal, from one of her favoured British fashion designers, teamed with Aquazzura £555 leather pumps for the long-awaited premiere.  James Bond film No Time To Die this evening in 2021.

Thought of as one of her best looks ever, Kate was instantly known as the ‘girl with the golden gown’, and clearly caught the eye of Ivanka Trump across the pond in New York.

The socialite  opted for a near-identical gown for her daughter Arabella Bat Mitzah this month. 

Putting a slight twist on it, Ivanka wore it in green not gold. 

 MEGHAN MARKLE

During a dinner date with the Duke of Sussex in New York, Meghan wore a bold black and white Gabriela Hearst fitted strapless jumpsuit, which she paired with black stilettos and plum clutch bag.

This is strikingly similar to look that Kate wore two months prior in May 2022, when she stepped out in a £2,700 Roland Mouret black gown with an identical white strap detail at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere.

The pair have had many close looks over the years, including when they sported a similar tan coloured coat (a staple in many women’s wardrobes).

Pre-pandemic in January 2020, The Duchess of Sussex wore her beige coloured coat during a trip to Canada House in London.

Kate then opted for a tan-coloured longline coat when she visited the Ukrainian Community Centre in Reading in November last year.

For the Invictus Games in The Hague last year, The Duchess of Sussex sported a £3,200 crisp white Valentino suit, pairing it with her wedding shoes from Aquazzura.

Meghan opted for a double-breasted wool blazer costing £2,100 which she paired with high-waisted pair of trousers costing £1,100 for the occasion.

However, Meghan might have been taking inspiration from Kate, who first wore her white £1,945 Alexander McQueen suit during her royal Caribbean tour , which she also paired with white stilettos.

HOLLY WILLOUGHBY   

Holly Willoughby and Kate Middleton have mirrored each other styles many times – unsurprisingly as they’re two of the most stylish women in the country.

In 2021, Holly opted to wear the orange version of an LK Benett polkadot dress which Kate had worn in 2018.

The Duchess had donned the emerald green number to visit Evelina children’s hospital with Prince William.  

In January 2020, Kate donned a red version of a sparkly party dress worn by the This Morning star as she joined husband Prince William, 37, at a Buckingham Palace reception.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore the Needle & Thread £410 Aurora Gown in red, which Holly went on to wear to present This Morning over the Christmas period. 

PIPPA AND CAROLE MIDDLETON  

We are all familiar with the ‘Kate Middleton’ effect when it comes to fashion sales, but could the same apply to her own family? 

Perhaps it makes sense that Kate’s mother and sister, Carole, 68, and Pippa, 39, are stylish in their own right.

But what is more surprising is the number of times the Middleton women stepping out in similar outfits. 

Pippa arrived at the Abbey in a Claire Mischevani Alais serene lemon yellow coat dress, which was reminiscent of Kate’s custom Emilia Wickstead yellow dress worn at the National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral last year. 

For a visit to the Nobel Museum during day one of her Royal visit to Stockholm, Sweden, in 2018, the Princess of Wales wore in a forest green Catherine Walker outfit. Kate had been pregnant with Prince Louis at the time.

Nine months later, Pippa, who was also pregnant, wore a forest green Emilia Wickstead dress and coordinating hat as she arrived at Windsor Castle for Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

Even when they were not pregnant, it seemed the sisters liked something of a long-sleeved maternity look.

In 2014 when Kate visited New Zealand, she wore a beautiful turquoise dress from local designer Emilia Wickstead. 

She paired a coat with a hat by Jane Taylor, a favourite milliner, and the Queen’s diamond fern brooch (which had been a gift from the women of Auckland in 1954) for the second time on the trip.

And just a year prior, Pippa wore a similar Tabitha Webb dress to the wedding of James Meade to Lady Laura Marsham in Gayton, Norfolk. While lace is a chic choice for a wedding, Pippa was sure not to upstage the bride by wearing a pretty teal-blue hue.

She finished her outfit with a complementing hat, which was adorned with a peacock feather.

Meanwhile, Mum Carole, 68, is also taking a leaf out of her eldest child’s fashion book. 

At Royal Ascot in 2022, Carole was spotted wearing a breezy hot pink pleated shirtdress from British label Me+Em, Carole looked fabulous. The dress was strikingly familiar — it was identical to one worn by her daughter in May last year on a visit to Edinburgh.

Did Carole borrow it from Kate’s expansive wardrobe? Maybe. Although Carole is not as tall as the duchess, she certainly has the slender figure to carry off her daughter’s clothes. Not only that, but she put her own spin on the look with a black fascinator and matching clutch.

There was yet more daughter-mother style inspiration at Wimbledon, when Carole arrived on the third day of the tournament showcasing a stunning blue topaz necklace by one of Kate’s favourite gem designers, Kiki McDonough.

Princess Mary of Denmark 

Princess Mary of Denmark and Kate were dubbed unofficial ‘royal sisters’ by the late Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld thanks to their strikingly similar appearance and comparable taste in fashion.

The Princess of Wales has no doubt taken inspiration from the Australian-born royal on many occasions.

In March 2019, Mary was the latest royal to wear a green tartan coat on tour in Texas, after both Kate and Meghan Markle wore similar styles in Scotland.

The Danish royal wore a green and black tartan coat by Baum und Pferdgarten, which she paired with a black jumper and trousers to beat the European March chill.

Princess Mary completed her outfit with a long chain, as she travelled around Texas while promoting Danish culture and sustainable living.

Meanwhile, Kate has repeatedly showcased her love of tartan, plumping both for her favourite Alexander McQueen coat while in Scotland in January last year and a £1,500 red skirt over the Christmas period in 2019 by Emilia Wickstead.

A day before the duchess’ festive look, Mary wore a £1,295 tweed midi skirt by Alexander McQueen when she attended an event marking International Disability Day in Copenhagen.

The duo are both fans of colour-rich clothing as they have often been seen wearing bright reds, blues and oranges.

Another example was when the duo appeared surprisingly similar in a block blue frock, featuring mid-length sleeves and a high round-neck. Kate sported the look in 2016, while Mary treated fans to the outfit in 2017.

They also matching when each attending a more formal setting, with both favouring colour-block red gowns to complement their glittering tiaras in previous years.

The Duchess of Cambridge drew plaudits for her red Jenny Packham dress when she attended her very first state banquet in 2015 and clinked glasses with the Chinese president.

Just the following year, Princess Mary also opted for regal red and a tiara when she clinked glasses with the late Prince Henrik at a State Banquet at Fredensborg Palace.

As important faces of two royal families the pair always turn up to events looking sophisticated and stylish.

They often opt for high neck dresses with modest sleeves and knee length skirts and both are thrifty with their wardrobes, as they are seen recycling outfits.
