They can save you so much time because you don't have to press any buttons to get what you want done.

“Simply tell your Alexa device what you want to do, and Alexa will complete the action right on your Fire TV – no remote required,” Amazon explains.

There are two ways to control your Fire TV with Alexa.

The first is to use an Alexa Voice Remote (by pressing the microphone/Alexa button), which comes standard with some Fire TV devices.

And the second is to pair your Alexa gadget (like an Amazon Echo) with a Fire TV device.

How to pair your Alexa device

If you want to do the latter, it will only take a few seconds.

“For the devices to properly pair and work together, your Alexa device and Fire TV must be registered to the same account,” Amazon noted.

“You can connect multiple Alexa devices to the same Fire TV. Not all of them functions are supported on Echo Show devices or for a paired Fire TV Cube.”

Go to your Alexa app on a smartphone, then tap More > Settings > TV & video > Fire TV.

ALEXA, HELP!

Amazon has unveiled several Alexa commands that you should definitely try.

For starters, you can navigate directly to a piece of content by saying “Alexa, look ‘No remote needed’ boasts Amazon after revealing best Fire TV Alexa phrases”, and you can even specify the app it's on.

You can also say, “Alexa, show me [movies] of [actor]' to get a list of movies with your favorite star.

Another great option for anyone on a budget is to ask, “Alexa, search for free movies.”

You can even ask Alexa to scroll in a certain direction and select or play a particular item on the screen (for example, try “Alexa, play track six” in a list of titles).

With Alexa, you can use voice commands to return to the home screen or your video library – and even select a specific row number.

You can ask Alexa, “Play this movie,” and even say, “Watch trailer,” to get an idea of what you're watching.

A really neat trick is to ask Alexa to skip forward or back a certain amount of time in a movie, or even ask for a specific moment, like “two minutes later.”

You can also make general Alexa requests, like asking for the weather, searching for nearby restaurants, or checking your Alexa to-do list.

Amazon is constantly adding new Alexa tricks, so experiment every now and then to see what works.
