Anatomy Of A Fall star Samuel Theis has been accused of rape on the set of the upcoming film he directed

Anatomy Of A Fall actor and filmmaker Samuel Theis has been accused of raping a crew member working on his upcoming film Je Le Jure (I Swear).

The alleged assault occurred midway through filming, following a cast and crew party on July 1 via Variety.

The crew member was reportedly so drunk that he spent the night at the apartment where the party was being held, where he claims Theis raped him.

Theis claims the meeting was consensual, although the unnamed crew member left the production.

Producer Caroline Bonmarchand revealed that after learning of the incident, she engaged an outside organization to conduct an internal investigation.

While the investigation was underway, Bonmarchand physically kept Theis away from the set, as he had to direct remotely from another room, separated from the cast and crew.

Bonmarchand said Theis would come the morning before shooting was to begin to map out the day’s shooting before going into another room to direct.

It was said that crew members communicated with Theis via on-set monitors, while actors entered Theis’ room when necessary.

Production ended at the end of July, despite this unorthodox format, which also included crew members being allowed to speak to a psychologist.

The crew member has since filed a police complaint against Theis, although the actor/filmmaker’s lawyer, Marie Dose, says she is not aware of an official complaint.

“The only investigation into this matter was ordered by production and conducted by an independent organization,” Dose said.

“It was delivered in September and was 300 pages long – the conclusion is that there were no elements that qualified what had happened as a sexual assault,” Dose added.

The attorney claimed the independent investigative report included a witness who entered the bedroom where Theis and the accuser were and said it was a “tender moment.”

Theis plays Samuel Maleski, wife of Sandra Voyter (Sandra Huller) in Anatomy of a Fall, which won the Palme D’Or at Cannes in 2023

Je Te Jure is Theis’s third film, following 2014’s Party Girl, for which he won the Camera D’Or at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, and 2021’s Softie, which won the Queer Palm at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

Je Te Jure features a cast of French stars such as Marina Fois and Louise Bourgoin, as well as many non-professional actors.

The film follows Marco, a man in his thirties with not much to show for his life, which is turned upside down when he is assigned to the jury to decide the fate of an arsonist.

Theis plays Samuel Maleski, the wife of Sandra Voyter (Sandra Huller) in Anatomy of a Fall, which won the Palme D’Or at Cannes in 2023.
