Android owners receive a free upgrade that records important details of calls
IPHONE rival OnePlus has followed Google and Samsung in rolling out generative AI features for smartphone owners.
In an upcoming ColorOS update, OnePlus will add three new features powered by artificial intelligence: an AI Summariser, an image editing tool, and an article summary.
Sharp-eyed Android fans, included Reddit user milkyteapls and frequent Android Authorities Mishaal Rahman saw that OnePlus' AI features are currently being rolled out in China.
The AI Summariser essentially acts as a pocket-sized assistant that can jot down important notes from calls.
It generates call summaries “by extracting times, places, to-do items and other important information from your phone calls,” OnePlus said.
The feature is similar to a new offering from Samsung with Galaxy AI, which is designed to summarize documents, websites and notes.
The AI Summariser looks like it only summarizes phone call recordings.
However, OnePlus is also adding a separate article summary tool that allows users to extract important information from articles without having to scroll through the entire article.
Who is eligible for the AI upgrades?
OnePlus is rolling out the new AI features to its latest handsets with a February Color OS 14 update.
These include the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 12 devices.
While the updates are now available in China, it's unclear whether OnePlus will roll out the same features to users in other countries.
If the features prove effective and popular, there is little reason why the phone company would withhold the features from worldwide use.
OnePlus is also adding something called “AIGC Remover,” an AI-powered photo editing tool to remove unwanted objects or people from photos.
Again, it mirrors the Magic Eraser on Pixel phones and Samsung's new AI editing tool – putting OnePlus on par with its competitors.

However, Apple has yet to reveal similar features for its iPhones, despite swirling rumors of a blockbuster AI upgrade later this year.
