But luckily, there are a few ways to retrieve those lost messages for both Android and iOS users.

CHECK RECENTLY REMOVED

Many messaging apps and platforms have a built-in trash bin that temporarily stores deleted messages.

For example, iMessage keeps deleted messages for 30 days before permanently deleting them from a device.

So before you get upset about a deleted message, check your app's settings to see if it has a trash or recycle bin feature.

It's important to note that not all messaging platforms have this feature, such as Google Messages.

For Samsung phones, open the stock Samsung messaging app and tap the Menu with 3 dots knob.

Select Trash, find the text you deleted, long press the text and press Restore All.

For iPhone: Open the Messages app and in the Messages conversation list, tap Edit in the top left corner.

Then tap Show Recently Deleted, select the conversations you want to recover, then tap Restore.

RESTORE A BACKUP

If you regularly backup your device, there is a good chance that your deleted messages are there.

This can be done via app-specific backups or general phone backups.

Experts note that doing this will require your phone to undergo a factory reset.

Fortunately, this is not the case for Samsung users thanks to the cloud settings.

To restore a backup, go to your settings on your device and follow the onscreen steps.

USE A THIRD PARTY DATA RECOVERY APP

Sometimes yousing a Tthird party data recovery app is the best choice for recovering old messages.

This is especially useful in cases where you don't have a backup and the messages are permanently deleted from 'recently deleted'.

Third-party data recovery apps typically scan your phone's storage for traces of deleted data, including text messages.

The method takes a long time, sometimes even hours, but can be worth it in the end.

However, it is important to be careful with these apps as some can be risky or ineffective.

It is always best to opt for genuine recovery services and apps.
