A NEW trick has been discovered for iPhone users who like to fall asleep while listening to music or podcasts.
Reddit users have discovered a clever way to automatically turn off their iPhone’s music when they fall asleep.
“I just discovered how to set a ‘global’ sleep timer for all media played, thought I’d share,” said one Reddit user.
“I often fall asleep to YouTube videos, sometimes for hours,” they continued.
“When I looked to see if the YouTube app has sleep timer functionality, I found that there is one built into iOS/iPadOS that is super slick!”
Although iPhones don’t have a built-in sleep sensor, there is a smart workaround using the Clock app’s timer feature, the user shared.
Below we share how to use the iOS timer to stop your music automatically.
First, open the Clock app and then select the Timer tab (this is usually located at the very bottom right of the screen).
Press When the timer ends and scroll down to tap Stop Playing.
Set the timer to the desired duration (how long you want your music to play) and then press Start.

When the timer goes off, your music or podcast will automatically stop playing so you can fall asleep.
This feature is a great way to extend battery life and ensure you don’t wake up with the music still playing.
It’s also a convenient way to relax before bed without having to worry about turning off the music later.
“I only recently found out about this. I wish this was more widely known,” one Reddit user commented in the comments.
A third user shared another way to achieve the same result, using Guided Access.
“I put a program on my iPad when I go to sleep and press the home button three times to activate Guided Access,” they said.
“I set it to lock after 30 minutes. When it locks, playback will stop and the screen will lock after a short while,” she added.
Guided Access limits your device to one app and lets you control which features are available.
To use this feature, go to Settings > Accessibility and enable Guided Access.
Select Passcode Settings, then tap Set Guided Access Passcode. Enter a passcode and then enter it again.
From here you can also enable Face ID or Touch ID as a way to end a guided access session.
