Ashley Graham calls for more size inclusivity in fashion as she promotes Khloe Kardashian's Good American brand

As a plus-size model, Ashley Graham is a fashion pioneer.

The brunette beauty, 36, is grateful for the opportunities and success she has had, but she also admits that some designers still hesitate when she asks them to dress her for an event or a red carpet appearance .

On Monday, Good American's social media channels featured a video of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover girl talking about inclusivity.

“Good American and I resonate because they are all about authenticity, about being who you are and being real,” Ashley said during the annual Good American open casting call in Los Angeles.

'What does inclusivity mean to me? It means you see every type of person involved,” she added.

“One of my main missions in life is to be kind to everyone and to represent and normalize all types of beauty in the fashion industry and in the world, in the media, for everyone,” she concluded.

Despite her success, Graham still faces discrimination and closed doors when she goes to some designers and fashion houses.

“There are still designers who say, 'Sorry, we can't do that, we're just not going to design something for a larger body,'” she said. People at Good American's open casting call event in Los Angeles this weekend.

“Things have changed tremendously in some ways and just come to a standstill in other ways,” she continued.

'And that's why I keep talking about my body and dressing people with plus sizes, because it's not a norm yet.'

Ashely was quick to clarify that most designers she approaches are happy to make clothes for her, especially if it's a newer brand.

But the simple fact is that making clothes for bigger people means using more fabric and more materials.

“The industry is structured right now, making clothes that fit and look flattering for people with larger bodies costs more money,” she explained.

Much of the fashion industry is simply not set up to make plus size clothing.

And while Graham acknowledged the industry is changing, she says more progress can still be made.

“If you look at the runways, not much has changed,” she said. “If you look at designers, some of them dress different types of bodies, but that's not the norm.”

A mother of three, she pointed out that even though some magazines and media outlets are showing larger bodies than in the past, “it was a small creep.”
