Floods in Assam: One dead, 38,000 people affected in 13 districts, situation in the center

According to the latest updates from ASDMA, in the past 24 hours, floods have breached 5 levees and damaged 8 other levees, 8 roads, 1 bridge, some schools, anganwadi centers in various districts of the state.

Assam Flood: The floodwaters have inundated 1409.65 hectares of agricultural land in the flood affected districts.

Guwahati: The Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said on Saturday that nearly 38,000 people across 13 districts in Assam have been affected by the current flood. The ASDMA further stated that 25,275 people have been affected in Lakhimpur district alone, while 3,857 people have been affected in Dibrugarh and 3,631 people in Biswanath district.

“After incessant rains, the water level of many rivers in the region is rising and Brahmaputra River is flowing above the danger limit at Neamattenhat in Jorhat district, Kopili near Kampur in Nagaon district, Puthimari at NH road crossing in Kamrup district ,” the ASDMA said in a statement.

“146 villages under 23 income brackets in Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Udalguri, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Udalguri districts have been affected by the flood while urban floods have been reported in Cachar, Kamrup (Metro) and Nalbari districts,” he added.

Center reviews Situation

Meanwhile, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a meeting with central and state health authorities to review the situation and monitor health-related issues arising due to pre-monsoon flooding in Assam via video conference.

At the meeting, the minister reviewed the arrangements of the central institutions and agencies of the state government to ensure effective flood management in Assam.

Flood waters breach 5 embankments

According to the latest updates from ASDMA, in the past 24 hours, floods have breached 5 levees and damaged 8 other levees, 8 roads, 1 bridge, some schools, anganwadi centers in various districts of the state.

The floodwaters inundated 1,409.65 hectares of agricultural land in the flood-affected districts. Looking at the situation, the district administration has set up 17 relief distribution centers and two relief camps.

On the other hand, one person, namely Muktar Ali (35 years old), died in a landslide in Dhirenpara area of ​​Guwahati on Saturday.
