Aussies outraged after spotting a packet of Tim Tams for an ‘outrageous’ price – and that was before they saw the cost of milk

Foodies were outraged after spotting a pack of Tim Tams for an eye-watering amount in a regional store.

The popular Arnott’s biscuit cost $11.70 at a petrol station in Kalumburu in the far north of Western Australia – more than four times the $2.50 price tag at Coles.

Hundreds of customers were left stunned by the high price after an image was shared on Facebook.

The charges left a sour taste in the mouths of customers who wondered how locals should cope with rising prices amid the cost of living.

“These are the prices of petrol and Tim Tams for some of our most regional and remote communities – and a 2 liter bottle of milk will cost you $21,” the Facebook caption read.

“How are people supposed to afford the basic necessities if the price is more than 400 percent?”

This also shows that prices in regional areas have increased much more than in metropolitan areas.

CEO of the Kalumburu Community, Madeline Gallagher-Dann said ABC that “costs have definitely increased” in the remote town and that it is a “burden on local families.”

A spokesperson for Arnott told FEMAIL that the brand does not set the price consumers pay, the retailers do.

‘We offer a Recommended Retail Price (RRP), which is a recommendation only. The list price that Arnott’s sells its products to retailers is the same for all retailers nationwide,” the spokesperson said.

The Facebook post was liked more than 4,500 times and hundreds of people shared their outrage at the walk.

“That’s disgraceful,” one person wrote.

“Australia the so-called ‘lucky country’,” wrote another.

An Australian living abroad said she spends less money buying Tim Tams in Germany.

Another adds: ‘Unfortunately, the costs associated with transport are passed on to the customer. And the business community must cover these costs in order to continue operating.’

Last month, Arnott’s responded when an Australian accused the brand of reducing the number of Tim Tam cookies in each pack.

Amanda Catalano, host of the Set the eyebrow low podcast, bought the new Tim Tam Deluxe Café Latte range and noticed it only contained eight cookies.

In a now-viral TikTok, she declared that “shrinkflation is getting so ridiculous” after comparing it to an iconic ’90s commercial starring Cate Blanchett, in which the package contained 11 cookies.

‘I haven’t bought a pack of Tim Tams in years. I think they were just presented to me,” she said, before showing what an “old pack” looked like.

‘This is what I always remembered. Stacked side by side, no holes in the middle. There are 11 cookies.’

Amanda compared the number of Tim Tams in the commercial to the pack she bought and claimed the cookies in the new Deluxe edition were ‘spread out’.

‘Look how spread out they are, there are eight of them! Three cookies are missing. What is that space in between? That’s ridiculous,” she said.

However, a spokesperson for Arnott told FEMAIL this is incorrect as the original Tim Tams still contain 11 biscuits, while the limited edition version contains fewer as each biscuit weighs more.
