I’m a psychologist and my patient was telling me about her secret affair. Then I found out it was with my husband. Here’s the glaring red flag I missed

An Australian psychologist was left speechless after discovering her husband left her for a patient – and she ignored a glaring warning sign for weeks.

The anonymous mental health professional wrote in the Toni and Ryan podcast to share her fear after her life fell apart.

“A patient of mine told me she was sleeping with a married man and the guilt was eating her alive,” the psychologist said, referring to the first red flag.

‘The patient said the man would leave his wife for her, but… [she was conflicted].’

Although she was in love with her affair partner, she also regretted that she was “a homewrecker.”

The psychologist advised the patient as best she could and went home, without thinking about the confession.

It wasn’t until a few days later that she realized she was directly involved in the affair.

“Later that week, my husband told me he was leaving me for a woman he was sleeping with,” the psychologist revealed.

“My husband had an affair with my patient and I couldn’t tell any of them – or anyone else – because of the confidentiality clauses, but I have to tell someone and all I have to do is scream,” she told Toni and Ryan .

Melbourne podcasters were shocked by the revelation.

“What the hell?” Toni gasped.

Australians have often sent their boldest confessions to podcasts – with one woman recently revealing she ‘became addicted to the high of sleeping with a married man’.

Thousands from around the world shared their disbelief at the ‘crazy’ story.

Some believed that the affair partner knew about her friend’s wife all along.

‘[The other woman] knew it was her and that this was her way of alleviating the guilt. She told her [boyfriend’s wife] without telling her,” someone surmised.

“There is not a single universe in the multiverse where the patient did not know that her doctor is her lover’s wife. Shame on you,” one woman said.

Many couldn’t believe that people were willing to date people in a relationship.

‘Isn’t the moment you find out that someone has a partner the moment you cut off all contact? If they do it to someone else, they will do it to you.”

“I don’t know what’s more shocking: the whole plot twist or the fact that a married man promised his mistress to leave his wife and he actually did,” another added.
