Avatar: The Last Airbender FIRST LOOK: Gordon Cormier prepares to battle Daniel Dae Kim (the ruthless leader of the Fire Nation)

Netflix has released the official trailer for the live-action series version of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

In the preview, Aang (played by Gordon Cormier) expresses his fear that he cannot protect the world from the Fire Nation, who are determined to destroy “everything in their path.”

The project is an adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon animated series, which ran from 2005 to 2008.

The World of Avatar is a fantasy world primarily inspired by East Asian cultures, including China, Japan, and Tibet, along with some Inuit, Polynesian, Aztec, and South Asian influences.

The clothing worn by the characters represents their nation, by wearing colors that symbolize their original element: Air Nomads dress in orange and yellow, while the Water Tribe people wear blue, purple, and white clothing.

Those from the Earth Kingdom dress in brown, yellow, and green attire, while the people of the Fire Nation wear various shades of black, red, brown, black, pink, and gold.

In August 2021, showrunner Albert Kim wrote a statement, published on Netflixexplaining why he was excited about adapting the iconic animated show.

He wrote: 'A live-action version can not only faithfully translate what has been done in animation – it can add a rich new visual dimension to a fantastic world. We will be able to see the bending in a real and profound way that we have never seen before.”

Earlier this year, in April, it was announced that an animated Avatar: The Last Airbender movie will be released on October 10, 2025.

A live-action film of the original animated series had already been released in theaters in 2010, but was largely panned by critics and fans alike, with several publications calling it “one of the worst films of all time.”

Paramount Pictures confirmed that the project will be released at CinemaCon in two years, with the original characters appearing as adults.

The film will be the first of three animated Avatar films that Avatar Studios is planning for fans of the franchise.
