The first ever transwoman to be crowned Miss Maryland The US has clapped back at trolls who criticized her win.
Bailey Anne Kennedy received the coveted title last week, also becoming the first Asian American and military officer’s wife to represent the state.
Despite her historic victory, Kennedy has been on the receiving end of online disapproval and hatred for her sexuality.
But the newly crowned winner wasn’t swayed by the comments and instead released a statement in the hope of inspiring others LGBTQ+ people and clarified its future plans.

In a long one Instagram post, Kennedy wrote, “Not everyone has to agree with the spaces you occupy, and that doesn’t mean you’re not worthy of these opportunities. The work I will do for the rest of my life is to ensure that children who feel like me never have to worry about the consequences of who they are, by simply being myself and making a positive contribution to the society.
‘For a long time I never felt the need to tell anyone. Not because it’s a secret, but it’s nobody’s business. For those who are important to me, they don’t care. Those who care about knowing such private and personal details don’t matter.
“I can’t wait to start my administration and get back to the USO office and start serving lunches and thanking our active duty members in person, as I originally planned to do yesterday, because that’s what really matters to me .’

Kennedy, who married her military husband less than a year ago, is all set to compete for Miss USA in Los Angeles this August
In an interview, Kennedy also noted that the entire victory felt like a whirlwind and that she felt buoyed by the “sisterhood” of women competing with her.
‘[It was a] whirlwind because I knew he was bigger than me. I knew it would mean a lot to all LGBTQ kids who might feel like they don’t belong in a box — like I did growing up.
“I felt confident at 31, which is past the old age limit, which is 28 – as you know, Miss Universe Organization is now lifting the restriction – so that any woman of any age can participate,” she shared. DC News Now.
