Bali: Tourist captured walking along Indonesian island wrapped in bandages after scooter accident

A tourist has turned heads as he walked down the street in Bali looking like an ‘Egyptian mummy’ – but there’s a serious explanation.

The injured man, wearing a black shirt and shorts with matching sandals, was filmed walking gingerly past shops in Canggu, with bandages on his face, arms and hands, knees, legs and both feet.

The surprising video titled ‘No filter Bali kiss Canggu tattoos’ has since gone viral after it was posted on social media.

‘Wow. Next level scooter accident,” one man explained in the clip.

‘Bali kiss next level. The mummy. Fortunately still in one piece. Unbelievable!’

‘Bali kiss’ is the term given when a tourist falls from his scooter or motorbike on the holiday island.

The clip caused a wide range of reactions from viewers, from horror to amusement.

“If you’ve been to Bali this is funny because you see a bunch of white people with bandages all over them and you know it’s from scooter accidents,” one person commented.

Another joked: “That’s more than a kiss that’s at least second base.”

“Think he was actually on his way to audition for the new Mummy movie,” someone said.

Others were quick to condemn the ‘stupid’ antics of tourists, with many saying visitors to Thailand were also often covered in bandages as a result of similar accidents.

“I call it mummy season in Thailand,” one person wrote.

“The way I see foreigners flying around here, it will never end well!” wrote a resident of Bali.

Another wrote: ‘They (tourists) have never cycled in their lives, but they think: because it is Asia, they can handle it. I see so many accidents every day… be careful.’

But the original author of the video later explained that he has since been in contact with the tourist who told him what really happened.

‘It was an accident, his phone fell off the bike and instinctively he went for it and lost control, nothing dangerous or stupid, he just went straight onto the tarmac and got a lot of brushes [sic],’ He wrote.

‘We both agree that the video is funny and does not offend anyone (fortunately it has no more serious consequences than just a body full of bandages).

“Maybe it’s a funny way to remind people how dangerous it can be to cycle and to always be very, very careful with a hundred eyes on the street.”

The poster of the video stated that he had interacted with the tourist and explained that he was not reckless on his scooter - his phone fell off the bike and when he instinctively went to get it, he crashed

Many tourists appreciated the reminder to be careful when renting scooters on the island.

“Good thing you posted this to remind others to be careful. I prefer not to get on my bike in Bali. Especially when bumping elbows and shins in traffic in Kuta is normal,” one person wrote.

Others were amazed that the tourist was still intact after the accident.

‘Glad it’s just a few bandages. It could have been so much worse. I hope he heals well,” said another.
