Bella Hadid called out for ‘Hamas birthday cake’ post on Instagram as supermodel prepares to star in music video titled Gaza is Calling

Bella Hadid has come under fire for her social media posts about Hamas’ alleged treatment of Israeli hostages.

The supermodel shared a post on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday claiming that Hamas made released hostage Almog Meir Jan, 21, a birthday cake while he was held in captivity.

But after he and the three other hostages were rescued, a clinical nutritionist revealed that the group had been suffering from severe malnutrition since October 7 last year while held by the terrorists.

She also shared a separate post on Wednesday, apparently suggesting that Hamas hostages are treated better than Palestinians held in Israel.

Hadid, who is a fierce critic of the war in Gaza, was accused of “spreading misinformation” and branded a “horrible human being” following the reports.

It comes as the Palestinian-American model starred alongside Sudanese-Canadian poet and singer Mustafa in his music video Gaza is Calling, which is reportedly a commentary on the situation in Palestine.

The birthday cake post Hadid shared on her Stories referenced a comment Jan made after he was rescued on Saturday, but was taken out of context.

Speaking about the treatment they faced in captivity, the 21-year-old told public broadcaster KAN that his captors had made him a cake for his birthday. He called the move a “cynical” gesture.

Medics at Tel Aviv’s Sheba Medical Center, where the hostages were treated after the rescue, claimed the four were malnourished while in captivity for eight months.

They only ate about a quarter or a tenth of the amount they should have and lost serious muscle mass. The Jerusalem Post reported.

Outraged by Hadid sharing the birthday cake post, social media users argued that her “account should be suspended due to misinformation.”

One shared the cake post, which he labeled as “fake,” side-by-side with a news article in which a doctor claimed the hostages were “beaten and abused almost every day.”

Another blasted Hadid for being a “Hamas groupie dressed in Chanel,” saying, “They took a man hostage, locked him in the bathroom, piled blankets on him during a heat wave, threatened to kill him multiple times, but omg they made him a birthday cake.’

‘Bella Hadid is spreading lies and supporting a terrorist organization again. Even if it was true and they made him a cake, is that okay after kidnapping him and holding him captive for 8 months?,” another asked. “Thank God the IDF managed to rescue him so he can now celebrate with his loved ones.”

One user added: ‘Maybe it’s time for Bella Hadid to taste the “cakes” in Gaza.’

The original birthday cake post has since been deleted.

Some social media users called Hadid a “horrible human being” and accused her of spreading misinformation. They also used shared posts that apparently refuted accusations in her posts that Hamas was treating hostages well

Hadid also faced criticism for a video she shared with her stories, in which nine-year-old released hostage Ohad Mondar revealed some of the Arabic words he learned while in Hamas captivity.

The footage also showed the alleged mistreatment of Palestinian children held in Israel.

Hadid wrote on the post, “Can you imagine speaking to a child like this? If he’s so traumatized by his pressurized life that he can’t remember every moment?

“I’m sorry, but fuck you. This is disgusting.’

‘The boy on top was questioned because he tried to kill several people. Probably worth mentioning!’ he said, retweeting the images.

“Brother Suppressed got this video from Bella Hadid.”

Earlier this week, Hadid appeared in Mustafa the poet’s new music video, Gaza is Calling.

The short film, directed by Hiam Abbass, shows the story of a boy from Gaza with whom Mustafa is said to have grown up, and the ongoing situation in Palestine. Cosmopolitan Middle East reported.

Hadid and 15-year-old rapper MC Abdul portray a mother and son who have found refuge from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

At the same time, the film tells the story of a teenage refugee and her brother living in a displaced persons camp in Jenin.

“I wrote and recorded it in 2022, Bella and I conceived the video that same year and we shot it last year,” Mustafa said in a post announcing the music video.

“It haunts me that this song/movie was written and recorded so long ago.”

He added: “To Ali, wherever you are, I love you. [And] Bella, thank you for answering my call.”

Mustafa said proceeds from the song will be donated to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund.
