NEW owners of The Body Shop have appointed administrators for their UK chain.
The company is set to appoint administrators as early as next week, which could put a significant number of jobs at risk.
It is understood the chain, founded by Anita Roddick and her husband Gordon, will appoint FRP Advisory to oversee an insolvency process that could affect around 200 stores.
As reported by Sky News, sources claimed there was a strong chance administrators could close a large number of UK branches of The Body Shop.
The retailer told RetailWeek that it is “further prioritizing The Body Shop's strategically important markets and global master franchise partner relationships, which it will seek opportunities to build.”
“The Body Shop will also focus on reaching customers more effectively by strengthening digital platforms, developing new sales channels and through differentiated shopping experiences,” it added.
“The announced sale is another decisive step towards a strong turnaround strategy for The Body Shop, supported by the right structure.
“The ambition is to create a modern and dynamic beauty brand, relevant to customers and able to compete in the long term.”
An insider added that the management process would not extend to their global operations.
