Dita Von Teese reveals her number one secret to flawless skin at 51 – and anyone can do it for free: ‘It works miracles, I wish I knew sooner’

Burlesque star Dita Von Teese has revealed the secret to how she keeps her skin ‘flawless’ at the age of 51 – and it’s free.

The model was recently featured on the Bunnie XO podcast ‘Dumb blonde’ and shared the one thing she does every night to keep fine lines away.

“I know no one wants to hear this, but I wish someone had told me how good it is for you to sleep on your back when I was young,” she said.

The dancer taught herself how to sleep on her back four years ago and said the new change in routine “worked wonders” on her skin.

Australian registered nurse and anti-aging specialist Madeline Calfas, who previously revealed that sleeping on your back can help with headaches, prevent wrinkles and help with overall spinal alignment.

“I know where one of my wrinkles came from: I was lying on my face on my pillow,” Dita said.

You can train yourself to sleep on your back by placing a pillow under your knees to relieve pressure on the spine.

You can also use two pillows under your head to ease breathing and provide support, but this sleeping position is not recommended for people with lower back problems or sleep apnea.

The burlesque star shared her process: “I close my eyes, put on meditation and sleep with my palms up so my shoulders stay back.

“I move around sometimes at night, but I’m a light sleeper, so I can catch myself.”

The star revealed why it was important for her to make this small change to her routine.

“It’s all fun and games until you realize that the collagen actually works,” she said. “Some of the spots on my face are from my sunglasses and they last all day.”

Lying on your back helps prevent wrinkles on the face and chest because the skin is no longer subject to hours of creasing due to body position and sheets or blankets.

When you wrinkle your skin, it pushes the dermal matrix (which is made up of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid) out from under the skin.

‘As we age, our skin matrix production slows and folds begin to etch in, becoming deeper the longer we do it and the older we get,’ says Ms Calfas.

‘This also applies to the skin around our décolleté, so sleeping on your side with your arms folded promotes the folds and wrinkles between the breasts.’

Dita also religiously uses sunscreen every time she steps out.

Wearing sunscreen every day protects you against skin cancer – one of the most common cancers in Australia – but also prevents fine lines and wrinkles.

Sun exposure also causes sagging over time. That’s why dermatologists also recommend using sunscreen as a preventive measure against physical aging.
