The Child Accident Prevention Trust has warned that the Easter treats are the perfect size to block a small child’s airways.

The trust said: “So many mini egg colors and flavors this year.

“They look like the perfect little treat for your little one.

“But due to their size, they can block and suffocate a small child’s airways.

“Please stay safe and choose another treat #chokinghazard.”

In a statement on social media, the charity wrote: “It’s that time of year again when mini eggs hit the supermarket shelves.

“But did you know that, like grapes, they are the perfect size to block and suffocate a small child’s airway?

“And their hard shell can make it difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques.”

It added: “For whole grapes we recommend cutting them in half lengthwise and ideally quarters to create thin strips.

“But chopping mini eggs is not that easy. So what can you do?”

Move over regular mini eggs,’ say Irish shoppers as they rush to buy new Cadbury treats for Easter

“1. Hide them from the kids and eat them yourself, good luck with that!

“2. Place the mini eggs in a sealable plastic bag and break them into small pieces with a rolling pin. Or crush them in a pestle and mortar, or

“3. Choose a different treat.

“Larger, hollow eggs are much safer for the little ones.”

The Sun Online has contacted Cadbury’s for comment.

The minimum age is written on all mini egg sacs, but many miss the text when they dig into the chocolate.

It is not the first time that a warning has been given about mini eggs.
