Floods in Chennai: After heavy rains and resulting widespread damage in Chennai and adjoining districts, Bharathidasan University (BDU) has decided to postpone the semester examinations for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in its affiliated colleges. Previously, the survey was scheduled to take place between December 11 and 16, 2023. However, a revised data sheet is expected soon. You can download the official notice by visiting the university’s website: “On the orders of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, the term examinations for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are postponed from 11-12-2023 to 16-12-2023 due to inability . The schedule for the above-mentioned postponed dates will be announced later,” reads the official notice.

In an official announcement, the Controller of Examinations has assured that a revised schedule for the examinations will be released soon. All BDU affiliated colleges have been duly informed about the postponement and proactive measures are being taken to address the disruptions caused by the adverse weather conditions in Chennai.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday announced a cyclone relief package comprising Rs 6,000 cash assistance and increased disbursements under other categories including enhanced compensation for flood-affected crops. The cash assistance to people whose livelihoods were affected by the cyclone would be disbursed in cash at ration shops (public distribution system outlets) in their respective residential areas. Seeking relief for the MSME sector, he wrote a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman asking for a number of sops including providing overdraft facilities to cover the losses incurred by them compensate, news agency PTI reported. On December 3 and 4, under the influence of Cyclone ‘Michaung’, Chennai and nearby areas in Chengelpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts received heavy to very heavy rainfall, leading to severe flooding, damage to property and loss of lives.
