Earthquake in China LIVE updates: An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale in a mountainous area in northwest China killed at least 111 people, state media reported on Tuesday. The official Xinhua News Agency said 100 people were killed in Gansu province and another 11 in neighboring Qinghai province in the earthquake, which struck just before midnight on Monday. More than 200 people were injured, Xinhua said, with 96 in Gansu and 124 in Qinghai. The earthquake occurred in Gansu’s Jishishan province, about 5 kilometers from the provincial border with Qinghai. State broadcaster CCTV reported that there was damage to water and electricity lines, as well as transport and communications infrastructure. The earthquake was felt in Lanzhou, the provincial capital of Gansu, where university students left their dormitories, according to a social media post with images of young people standing outside.
