Commerce City police said the knockoff necklace was only 10 millimeters wide but managed to deflect the .22-caliber bullet on Tuesday.

Police said the chain “is likely the only reason” the unidentified victim is still alive after the near-fatal altercation in Commerce City, about nine miles north of Denver.

Evidence photos show a small portion of the jewelry stained red with blood and a mangled bullet lodged in the chain links.

Police said a suspect has been arrested for attempted murder, but they have not released their name.

“We would say he really dodged a bullet, but in reality he DID a bullet,” police said of the victim.

“This silver chain – about ten millimeters wide – is probably the only reason the shooting victim we responded to yesterday is still alive.

‘The .22 caliber bullet was fired during an argument and would have landed in the victim’s neck if it had not become lodged in the chain he was wearing.

‘As a result, he only suffered a stab wound.

‘The suspect was arrested at the scene and is suspected of attempted manslaughter.

“Side note: We don’t know what type of metal this is, but it’s probably not pure silver.

‘We looked it up… and silver is soft. So maybe think twice before making a knock-off. Just incredible.’

Suffolk County police said the man was shot at an apartment complex in Coram on the morning of April 17 and that he avoided injury.

“An unknown individual fired multiple shots at a vehicle located at the intersection of Homestead Drive and Grant Court in the Homestead Village Apartments Complex,” the department said.

“One bullet lodged in the wallet of a man sitting in the vehicle. The man was not injured.’

Suffolk County police told DailyMail.com that the wallet was in the man’s pocket, although it is unclear which one.
