Comedian Neel Nanda dies at 32: Matt Rife and Dane Cook lead tributes in memory of beloved stand-up who worked on Comedy Central

Comedian Neel Nanda has reportedly passed away at the age of 32.

His death was reported by a number of comedy clubs, including The comedy castle And The Port Comedy Clubalthough not many details are known at this time.

His television credits most notably include Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Comedy Central’s Adam Devine’s House Party. He is survived by his father, his mother and sister.

Following the news of his tragic passing, fellow comics Matt Rife and Dane Cook took to social media to lead the many moving tributes in memory of their late friend.

“RIP Neel Nanda,” Rife tweeted on X. “You were one of the kindest, hardest working comedians I have ever called a friend.”

Alongside a bandaged heart emoji, he added: “I hope you can be at peace, brother.”

Cook also wrote a moving tribute, even though he noted that he “did not know Neel Nanda personally.”

Despite this, he turned to X and wrote that he had read “several tributes,” adding that the sad news was “both heartbreaking and eye-opening.”

“I join many who say help is out there,” he wrote, addressing his 2.6 million followers.

“Please remember that you are never alone,” he continued. ‘People want to help you. There is a way through your pain.

“Prayers for Neel’s family, friends and fans,” he wrote before encouraging those going through a difficult time to seek help and sharing the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number.

Content creator Nick Kaufman also wrote a lengthy tribute, recalling that Nanda was “a genuinely sweet guy” and “a very funny cartoon character.”

German comedian Mario Adrion shared a photo from their show last week on Instagram.

Fellow comedian Adam Newman shared a group photo with Nanda, wrote a caption about his generosity and said his passing is “truly a huge loss to comedy and everyone who knew him.”

Many of Nanda’s childhood friends also took to social media to share historic photos and share their fond memories with the beloved comedian.

He wrote that he had only met Nanda this year, but “he brought a lot of light and positivity into my life in the short time I had the opportunity to spend with him.”

One of his close friends, Spencer Breslin, also wrote a tribute in which he remembered Nanda as “truly one of the funniest people I have ever known.”

Producer Brian Cullen also took to Instagram and wrote about their long-standing friendship, saying they had recently spoken about a project for the new year.

Film writer Jacob Sirof also shared an Instagram post about meeting Nanda in 2014 and recalled one of his most memorable shows with an interesting audience.

Nanda had just celebrated his birthday earlier this month with a weekend of comedy shows.

He first began his career in comedy in his hometown of Alpharetta, Georgia before making the move to Southern California.

His weekly live show, Unnecessary Evil, at the Westside Comedy Theater in Los Angeles was named one of the Top 10 stand-up comedy shows in the city by LA Weekly.

He has also worked on Hulu’s Coming to the Stage and Viceland’s Flophouse.

As he prepared to kick off the Outsourced Comedy Tour in 2018, he recalled his proudest moment.

“I would say my proudest achievement in comedy to date is appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!” he shared VC reporter.

“I’ve always wanted to do a set late at night, and Jimmy Kimmel was my first choice.”

He explained that even though he has worked on several impressive networks in the past, it “blows my mind” as the show was “the first place I performed where my parents were fans of the host.”

Nanda was born in Atlanta to parents who emigrated from India after their arranged marriage.

He told the outlet that he has always been passionate about comedy since childhood.

He remembered watching Comedy Central in high school and writing down his favorite jokes in a notebook to study and retell them later at school.
